    Ak building question

just got my ak parts kit
and wanted to know if i have to remove the barrel from the the front trunnion in order to attach the front trunnion to the receiver or not?
my parts kit has the barrel installed onto the F. Trunnion and have seen some youtube vids stating that i need to remove barrel to install F. Trunnion to receiver first...
    is this true?
the parts kit has no previous receiver parts on it..
in other words, what do i need to do in order for me to accomplish my ak..
    i have parts kit with:
    -Original barrel installed onto F.Trunnion
    -stock
    -every internal piece
-will be buying rivets this week
    thanks..

yes Barrel need to come off to get access the inside to squish the rivets.

You are going to need all you 922R parts and a receiver flat or a 100% AK drosed receiver.

Where are you located so we might be able to direct you to someone in your area that builds.

I build out of san diego

Don't forget a magazine lock or to build featureless too.
I also highly recommend a red star arms retaining plate.

im in the covina, ca area...
        i do have a nds 1-ez receiver ...
i thought starting 2014, you couldn't have build parties or someone else help you build your firearm for personal use?
        correct me if im wrong..
        thanks.

In addition to your parts kit, you need a receiver, rivets, center support, redstar fire control retainer plate, 922 compliance parts (typically a Tapco G2 fire control group), a CA compliance device (bullet button or a grip wrap for featureless builds) and then probably some help making it all fit together.

            You Tube is your friend.
Seeing the different steps will help you understand what you're in for.
Just got through my first at home and the above guys helped with a few questions after I had done some research.
There's a six part video done by usmcdoc14 that's pretty informative. Entertaining as well. A little dated on some stuff but gives you a good overview.

more mis informed BS floating around the web then in DC. No laws currently on the book say anything about getting help. There is one AB that that has the potential to ruin our lives as home builders but i seriously doubt it will go anywhere. that's AB 808.

See since you already have a NDS receiver your firearm is manufactured. What you are seeking is help with assembly and outside of tooling and skills anyone can legally help you do that.

There is a small faction of guys on the AKfiles and here that believe that squishing a rivet for some one else is "manufacturing" under federal law which is just not true. I'm not going to rewrite the whole list of federal code I cited showing what we as helpers are doing is completely legal. I'll simply say this. I, as the builder helper know the extent of the law as it pertains to the assembly of the weapon and I know exactly which areas you the owner manufacturer need to perform to meet the federal law in regards to manufacturing as do many others here. That said It also means I don't know everything nor pretend to either, I'll spend the time to look something up or ask a question here i'm still learning as always and will till the day i die

IDK San diego is still game for a build party. We may need to find a new location but I know the support down this way will find a way to do it.

OP, you can have somebody help you and not get into a legal issue. Have them show you how the rivet upsetting tool works and how to place it in the press. Then you do it and pump the handle. Just keep doing that until it's built. That's a big job building an AK for the first time, lot's of things you need to know about so you don't butcher it.

Thats not the legal issue. all he has to do to the receiver is bend the flat and drill and ream the holes. then the receiver is build and done. The receiver need not be functional to be a firearm.

All the above guys are great (kcstott, nicoroshi, ar15barrels) and come highly recommended. But if you are like me, I did get the tools and do it myself mainly because I prefer to build on my own while learning. I did however read a lot about it and learn as much as I can before building. So far the rifle has been fun and I haven't had issues with my build.

I used the following to reference and learn:

                            www.my-rifle.com/ak build tutorial - standard pattern.asp
                            the tutorial on this forum

                            also this guide from youtube
