With that said then you could just use a ak builder rpk flat and bending die then cut it.

Actually, I did one of my PSL-54c's on a Cold Steel 80% receiver blank at the same time that I built Yugo M72 RPK on another Cold Steel 80% receiver blank, so I really got to see the difference between them side-by-side and yes, they are virtually identical to one another.

Unless, you were a VERY advanced AK builder you wouldn't have noticed the slight difference between them.........

O.A.L.'s and the trunny's were close enough (front & rear) to be the same receivers.

But it truth --- the dimples are a completely different shape and slightly different placement. And the lower dimple (at the front of the mag-well) is in a totally different place on each receiver according to the magazine positioning.

Also there were some geometry issues between the two rifles FCG's being in slightly different positioning --- but if you look closely at a real PSL's FCG, you can very easily see how the geometry difference was dealt with at the factory. Which is probably why un-ground Tapco FCG's give a notoriously crappy performance is US built PSL's.......LOL !!! (OOps, did I give that secret fix out loud.)

So, do I think that I could build one off of the others receiver --- sure, no problems for me. But a 'real' AK builder WILL see the differences if he/she looks close enough.

And why would you go through all of that trouble of having to weld up all of the hole in one of Curtis flats, when you can just get a Cold Steel and go to town.........???

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------

Below are picts of a 'real' (imported, NOT US made !!!) PSL-54 trunnion placement & installation.

good thing most of us can use the factory FCG in our PSLs without having to worry about 922r, and not have to swap out for a US FCG

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Is that because you guys are still building it as a 'sporting rifle' ?? So, 922r isn't applicable if you build it back to original configuration ??

I have three different types of them then, 922r-wise: One of mine is an original, matching #'s, un-altered, Cugir made/CAI imported PSL-54, one is a PSL-54 that I made from a matching #'s kit and the last is a PSL-54c (16" barrel/AK47 length gas system) that is only 1" longer than a Romy G that I made a few years back.

So, the PSL-54 Carbine is the only one that I need to worry about the 922r stuff with then, correct ??

I just got done doing this exact same thing with one of those Yugo M77 .308's. It was totally in the EXACT same 'sporting' configuration as the PSL's are when they get here. So, I had to "un-sportsted-ize" it and add my special touches to it.........LOL !!!

yup, they are imported as sporting rifles, so if you duplicate that config, 922r shouldn't apply.

yup, 922r would probably apply to the Carbine but the others are fine since they are in the imported configuration.

I was just reading up on this stuff to be clear.

Man there is a whole list of stuff you can't do. Bayonet lug, flash hider are among the two that stick out in my mind.
I also like that I and everyone else calls it "922r" when it is actually Title 27 Part 478.39 that gives you the ability to assemble a rifle or shotgun from not more then ten imported parts from the twenty listed. 922r is the importation of the firearm itself not the parts
but 922r sounds better then 478.39

yeah you just need to keep it in a sporting configuration and you're good to go.
