    PSL assembly help?

So I got a Cold Steel Solutions 80% blank, a Romanian parts kit, Prexis Barrel.

Problem is that the template I got from Cold Steel isn't an exact fit, that leaves me few options as far as getting it drilled and such.

My gunsmith buddy said that he's not sure what to do, unless he can get his hands on a finished PSL receiver. I'm wondering if anyone here has any ideas?

    Thanks!

    look for a finished receiver.
I got half way thru my cold steel solutions receiver. when at that point I tried to fit the mag wells and realized mine was too narrow. the mag barely fit without the rails. waste of time and money.

Would anyone know if Curtis has ever moved forward with a flat and die?

Nope been too busy. I sent him a email last year. His RPK receivers would
Work if he just moved the trigger holes and selector hole back. Cut a magwell slot and just offer the rear extensions separately. I told him I would buy a 1.5 blank . I think a 1.5 blank would be the best option.

This receiver will work, you have to scallop the rear to match your stock. Pretty simple to do with a drill press and a 2 1/8" (I think) holesaw on each side then a dremel for the bottom straight cut. I have done one with this receiver and it wasn't do difficult to scallop.

they make one already scalloped in the rear.

Yeah but MRlonewolf told me that the Romanian made receivers are very hit and miss where the nodakspud square back receivers (I linked) are much better quality.

You use their RPK receiver and cut it. Built 2 this way.

The Romanian receivers are a nightmare to work with and require a lot of work. Plus you then have to cut the scope rail which is a pain in the butt.

Like bigbob said they are hit or miss ,but that is you better bet then cold steel. Mine came in great shape. Everything lined up mostly burrs had to be removed.
I then went to build party and saw one that was twisted couldn't get the trunnion in there.

The rail is over sized so that also needs to be machined.

The nodak spuds from what I hear are the best everything is done including the rail. just the rear section of receiver is square instead of crescent. but that can be fixed with a hole wall saw.

                          Found this thread might help.

the first PSL I built was on a Romanian receiver. It was in not to bad of shape but if you don't have an eye for metal forms and squareness you are going to have problems. We spent a little bit of time squaring the receiver and bending the bulged trunnion features to get a nice fit on the trunnion.

Then is was a matter of deburring and finishing the top rails. bunch of minor work lots of little things. Rail was over sized good amount too had to cut that down. I wonder if you guys cut your rails parallel to the top or build in a little elevation. The receiver i worked on, the rail appeared to be set with 20 MOA of elevation built in. is would make sense that the 7.62X54R is the most flat shooting round in the world.

Nothing wrong with the Cold Steel receivers at all. Then again, PM me for blueprints, sir (I have multiple sets).

Here is a PSL I built from a kit and Cold Steel blank (at the bottom).

                              ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

And P.S. guys --- All PSL receivers are technically 'flat-backs' and NO --- you DO NOT scallop cut the rear of your PSL receiver.

Regular PSL's receivers have a shorter o.a.l., flat-back profile and stepped rear plates that are first welded to the receiver, then riveted to the trunnion/receiver.

'Flat-back PSL's have a longer o.a.l and during installation they are welded to the receiver and the riveted to the trunnion/receiver.

How do I know this for sure......??? I know this stuff because I manufacture both types in my shop for assorted friends, family and occasional customers (applicable pictures below).
