I want to see this thing resurrected. That sure is odd for the jacket to get stuck in the barrel like that.

Actually it happens often in the varmint community. Slightly over charged load and the lead vaporizes leaving the jacket either in the barrel or a few feet in front. But it usually happens on bullets rated for low velocity pushed past their limits

Don't read Rasheed his last rights just yet Nico. I think I can resurrect this bad boy.....Provided I can get a professional to assure me there hasn't been any catastrophic damage to the barrel.

I'll hold off on Taps for the action but the stock gets it's last rights IMHO.

So....anybody have an idea how the hell this all happened?

Bullet failure.
The core seperated from the jacket and took some of the jacket down the barrel.
That ring you found stayed in the throat and in the chamber neck forward of the case, but behind the throat.
Then, the next round is fired with the partial obstruction and pressures run sky high and KB the action.

We saw this problem with the plated lead bullets in the 6.8 SPC before they extended the throat of the 6.8 so that the enture bullet fits in the throat before it obturates to the lands.

Spring loaded pin. Perfect condition, and runs smooth(still). This didn't happen while chambering. I squeezed the trigger and "spontaneous vigorous disassembly" happened.

haha! I'm glad you're alright. I wonder if there is a facet of the chamber design that allowed that to happen, based on Randall's response.

Maybe the brass trim length on the one was a bit long, causing it to "crimp" into the bullet when chambered? Upon firing, the excess pressure caused by the heavily crimped round causes the bullet to come apart and leave the back half in the chamber.

definitely sucks to see a rare rifle like that KB. Hope you can get it running again if the barrel isn't FUBAR.
