I honestly cannot answer that, but I know one thing the stress and hoops you will have to jump through... the cost of grief in an anti-2A state is not worth it esp since its weapons manufacturing.

Being someone with business development experience who is longterm unemployed that would love to work for a weapons manufacturer with the "up yours" attitude to the socialists should mean something. If I hit the lottery tomorrow with the plans I have I would not waste my time and money starting an empire here. This state is lost, there is no common sense or anyone with the know how to make serious business decisions running it. Plenty of corrupt SOBs doing everything possible to run people out of the state... and its happening. They do not want self starters, independent thinkers, entrepreneurs etc here. This state epitomizes the lefts dream and wants permanent dependent entitlement voting class to keep radicals in power.

I do my share of time on the net and general sentiment Ive seen from others around the nation is to get out of CA asap if you can. Businesses are leaving b/c of the draconian laws, taxes etc being rammed down their throats.

You mean well esp from someone like myself who would welcome an opportunity to apply for a job but not here. Heck to just est yourself as a corp, llc, s-corp etc right off the bat the state penalizes you with a minimum $800 annual tax. (BTW that tax applies to any llc, s-corp corp etc that does business here!) Try having 2 cents to your name with great ideas finding out to start your business you get penalized before even opening shop!

Maybe don't take this guys advice.

If I where you I would look into FMK, they make pistols here and plenty of people would like to buy one because of it.

There are a number of firearms manufacturers who have done well here:

        FMK
        Franklin Armory
        JD Machine Tech
        Weatherby

        I'm sure there are more.

I am a manufacturer/job shop in Southern California, and can tell you that the manufacturing infrastructure here is huge. If you have a viable product, the possibilities are endless. In fact a couple of my customers are firearm manufacturers. One a defense contractor. The other markets canons to bomb squads. I will let it go at that.

Look for an economic or enterprise zone for a possible site. Los Angeles has a few of them, and I am in one of them. Then look at other states.

I have read some other threads about this subject, so maybe a search for it would assist.

As near as I can recall, depending on where you live, you will need to locate the business in an area of your city zoned for it. Some cities allow home based FFL's others do not. Then you would need approval from said city, and I think a business license, plus insurance. Then I think you apply to the DOJ, as well as the ATF, to get the ball rolling for the permits and licenses.

That's about all I remember. And IANAL or expert in this matter.

            Good luck!
            Sorry, not sorry.

Maybe you havent read the news lately or seen the mountain of new gun laws coming down the road. Many will pass since legislators in this state have proven they want pop disarmed. Maybe you arent familiar with the mountain of taxes and regs being put on businesses making it next to impossible to operate, so badly countless numbers are leaving the state. Maybe you should look into what it takes to start a business today in CA and how much red tape is in your way that companies are being forced to hire ppl just to make sure they are in compliance; those ppl arent cheap where you have to sacrifice a worker or two to cover the expense. Did I mention Obamacare? You want me to continue or are just looking for someone to (attempt to) bully taking cheap shots?

Well, you have left me perplexed. Please continue. What does ObamaCare have to do with business that don't also apply to other areas of the country?

California does have a habit of chasing out long term big business. But strangely will subsidize new ones like I said earlier. If California is your home, there is no reason not to investigate doing business here.

Putting on staff in California to deal with red tape is not entirely accurate.

I can tell you from experience, CA is not friendly to 07FFLs, or business in general. If you wanted to support stuff here, open a place in Texas or Nevada and contract your parts from CA companies.
I've worked for 2 07FFLs and seeing the DOJ dicks barge into PRK arms and try to shut them down for breaking no laws.
At Valkyrie we had our AW/DWP paperwork filed with letters from LEA, private security contractors, and private AW owners and they sat on it for 6 months then said they couldn't find it. Refile and pay again.

I don't want to get into workers comp, taxes, environmental regulations, CAL OSHA certs, and the general nuttiness if those idiots in Sacramento and what kind of crap they can think of next.

More power to you if you can. I checked into getting an 01 for my home. I'm not even planning to sell guns, no DROS computer or anything, just gunsmith work. I don't want to even deal with the DOJ, and they told me i'd still need to get permits from them and be subject to audits.
There are 3 kinds of people in this world.
The wise, learn from the mistakes of others.
The smart, learn from their own mistakes.
The others, well......they just never learn.

Try Big 45 Frontier metal cleaner. It looks like steel wool with a flat edge. I heard about it on the CMP forum and ordered a couple to test out. They worked great on removing rust from a barrel and still left the bluing.

As a business owner i would...
Make sure that you are not too close to the coast/ocean as the Coastal Commission will be on you along with the EPA bs. Personally if I were starting up a new manufacturing business, I would look at several states including Texas, see which is least oppressive and go from there. If Kalifornia can compete with those other states then I would definitely pick here over most any other state. But I think with the HIGH tax rates, CARB, CC, EPA, and basic anti 2A stance there are probably better options. Just my opinion

By all means try CA. Since one of your stated goals to stick it to gungrabbers, then that would be a logical step. If you were in Salinas, I would support your business. So what if you gonna jump a few hoops, the same in other states.
