      "Steampunking" a 1911?

That's an oxymoron. Isn't that akin to "gilding the lily?" It's already "Steampunk" as it came from the tail of that period.

Considering that "Steampunk" is based on a 19th to early 20th Century machination and combination of steam-engine powered concepts in engineering and the industrial revolution, combined with the Victorian era (mid-1800s to 1901) and Jules Verne (through 1905 at least, but carried through the 1920s) to HG Wells (through to 1946) and an assortment of other styles and fashion through to the 1930s...

Whereas that the 1911 essentially hasn't changed all that much in over 100 years, profile and parts-dimension wise, other than materials, a 1911 is ALREADY "Steampunk" no matter what year it was made. Brass adornments and accents added to it is merely a dressing, like a fashionable waist-coat, like adding gold-plated emblems to a Cadillac, or cheddar cheese to an Italian pizza, but they are still already what they were.

Now if you "Steampunk" a Glock, an AR15, FN FAL, or a Chiappa Rhino, that would make more sense in the retro-laid-on-modern science fiction appointments to the gun.

Just my 2 pence worth, ma' lady. BUT that's not saying this isn't cool. The idea and what you are doing is awesome!

      Have fun.

I suppose it would be more correct to say that these are being 'customized' within the style of steampunk.

Picked up a pair of magazines with brass 'drop free' weights on the base.... It should be a good starting point for customizing

Come gun 5 I fear you'll have a 1911 turned into that anal beaded powered spiked anal probe looking thing in post #7. I suppose if the probe is 16" or longer, you could turn it into a rifle.

Great project, can't wait to see the finished product. I am always impressed by the steampunk costumes I see at Comiccon, especially with the level on detail some people go too. Best I ever saw was a Ghostbusters Steampunk crew. Like the idea of the anti aircraft sight or anything WWI or WWII incorporated into the design.

lol yeah, I noticed that it look exactly the same as a nerf gun i used to own, except for the colors.

                              How's this project going?

"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks & corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered. The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."

It's going forward, making steady progress at accumulating the little bits and pieces to use for the basis for fabrication.
