    Steampunk 1911 Projects

Some Rather amazing projects fell into my lap....

It looks like I'm going to be building up some steampunk 1911's

I'm going to have to scrape together 5 1911's worth of parts (at least)

But its totally going to be worth it.

Cool. Makes me wonder if they were originally designed as movie props.

Some filigree work would fit nicely. Maybe flute one of the barrels and possibly inlay with contrasting material.

I know you mentioned leaving the trigger guard off, but it would also be a good opportunity to create something elaborate. And that includes the trigger. Anywhere you can add some type of flourish is good.

Brass/copper and distressed surfaces are also desired.

Retro is also good. I had an idea for a sight. Instead of standard sights, how about a long copper tube making it look like an old fashioned telescopic site. I'm envisioning something like this:

Who is the gunsmith you got the parts from?
The aluminum frame in the second video looks like a Federal Ordnance frame I got over 25 years ago from their shop in South El Monte . Still have it, it was a .45 now it has a .22 conversion kit on it.

We need to get you a go-pro so you have use of both hands during these videos.

A go pro or google glass setup is on my list of things to get

Might be a while though, guns andgun parts take priority

Maybe instead of a slot in the grip, do a series of holes. Holes and circles are very popular in steampunk design. And don't forget the telescopic sight. I'll see if I can draw something up tomorrow.
Also, maybe keep the grip safety, but make it larger and more obvious, running the entire length of the grip.

Needs a frame mounted rear vernier (Quigley Down Under) sight with a front hooded bead sight. A skeletonized "suppressor" would look cool too, with brass baffles and internals largely exposed.

Keep the ideas coming.... Im still in the design and parts scrounging phase

I like the idea of a vermier sight, but not sure how to make it functional

Im not into doing things that are not functional

Different yes, but at the end of the day it still has to point and shoot or its not a gun its just sculpture
