    1911 60-80% frames

Hello guys, just wondering if there are any other makers of 1911 frames other than Ares Armor or KT ordnance? I am looking to put together one in my free time.

I understand that Sarco had grade II Colt 60% frames before which I would love to get my hands on but unfortunately they no longer sell them. I am looking for a partially railed or no rail, classic 1911 frame so that rules out the Ares Armor Rudius frame and KTO frame.

    Thank you.

Thanks for the link, I am tempted to pick one up but the stainless steel part has me thinking twice. I really want to get one deep blued and I already have a Colt carbon steel slide waiting as well and don't want galling to happen.

I'm pretty sure they are the full railed ones if they are from KTO. Correct?

            40% 1911

I transferred this for those not wanting to sign up just to see.

Not sure of manufacturer but 17-4ph Stainless Steel is good stuff and is able to be hardened as needed.

I am not a metallurgist, but I think this stuff is pretty forgiving.
Can be machined as hardened but can be annealed for machining and re-hardened after.

            From GUNCO.NET

"After 2.5 years of delays, the manufacturer is back up and running to full capacity and getting steady in production. These are 17-4 Heat Treated SS.

The trigger, grip safety, and magazine are not included. They are pictured to demonstrate that they will drop in with little to no fitting.

Price is $100 shipped regardless of quantity. No PP, MO only
            Shipped USPS Priority with tracking

e-mail: caspian45 (at) sbcglobal (dot) net for info or ordering.

              Thanks Ed,
Using the post you made I found this http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=699072
              Same guy/product.

To those that know what they are doing, how much does this differ from a KTO or Ares, as far as amount of work needed, and parts compatibility?

From what I can tell the material is different between each frame and the KTO and Ares guns at least have some holes drilled.
At least both will need the slide rails to be machined in.

I guess I'll keep looking for Carbon steel. The Ares one to be honest does not appeal to me at all, the whole STI like removable grip is a downer and the full rail on the KTO is bleh. If anyone has a carbon steel frame please let me know.

Edit: I would assume parts are interchangeable but would need fitting.

Also I'm not sure what steel ares armor uses

Ares is said to be made of 4140, I'm still waiting on my frames from the first gb to really see what they look like.

Cut half the rail off the KTO and you're good to go.

I'm in the same situation. I found a carbon steel one but crap, this is probably a 40%. I put a services wanted ad to see if anyone with a CNC could help me out but no responses.

Bumped one last time before I either sell it or go at it with a manual mill. I just hope I don't f*** up.

Curious where you found it and what the pricing is like. Looking for a cheaper alternative to mess with before I do a nice one.

I will be using a manual mill on whatever I get, just go slow and take your time.
