    Casing stuck in barrel

I was shooting some steel cased ammo and an empty casing got stuck in the barrel. I tried using a cleaning rod and it bent(I should have cut it down a bit) and I tried a dowel and it broke inside the barrel. Now I have wood jammed in there as well. I bought some "electrician" pliers from Home Depot because they were the thinnest and longest pliers but I still can't get a good hold on the casing to pull it out. Any suggestions or am I out a barrel?

casings don't get to the barrel, they get stuck in the chamber.

Unless it was the wrong size ammo.

I am a bigger hammer sort of guy, and keep metal tools away from the gun.

Sorry, chamber. I lubed the barrel and chamber prior to trying to hammer it out and it didn't move. It's been sitting in the safe for two months now and every now and again I try to get the damn thing out. I though about using a dremel to hollow the back of the casing out to get a better grip with my pliers but I just dot want to make things worse.

Give it a good shot of Kroil, let it sit overnight and try it again.

did the dowel you used fit into the casing?

did you hit it REALLY HARD?

You can bang quite hard with wood.

          That is what she said.

I would do that before scraping stuff up with metal tools.

The dowel fit into the casing. And I let out stick out probably a half inch out the barrel. After a few hit of the hammer nothing happend and with the final hit the dowel smashed inside the barrel and now I can't get it out.

This is why I never shoot steel case ammo. Another reason is, it's dirty as hell!

Op, spray some wd40, wait a bit and hit it hard with a cleaning rod.

I am not sure what a gunsmith would do. Skipper has a good idea, and after that for me it would be dismantle and heat the chamber with a propane torch while doing all of the above.

Tell us what kind of gun, and post a pic if possible.

This is why? This happened to you?

I shoot it all the time, pistol and rifle, never had a problem, other than the brass monkeys complaining.........and until we see a pic, we aren't sure it happened this time.

It's an ar chambered in .223
I'll post pics when I get home from work. Hitting out is no longer an option due to the broken and I presume splintered wooden dowel in the barrel. I'll try the kroil and heat treatment.

Well.... He would get it out without damaging the rifle, and he would not get anything else stuck in there in the process.
If it comes out easily with cleaning rods/hardware store tools/well-intentioned internet forum advice, it wasn't really stuck.

This happens at USI all the time. Best way to get these out is with an appropriately sized brass rod that is long enough for the barrel. Lesson learned if you want to shoot steel cased ammo get an AK or be prepared to use the rod.

Stop screwing around right now. No steel tools. No torches, unless you really know WTF you're doing. Take it to a gunsmith. The more sh*t you have jammed in there the more he's going to charge you to remove it.
