    building a krink

so i plan on building a krink for my first ak build, ive been looking for parts kits and the under folders are alot less expensive than the triangle side folders. i know i have to have it pinned to make it legal so operation does not matter but i like the look of the side folder more.

my question is can i buy the under folder kit and later change over to the side folder stock? also do i have to get the full length 16" barrel or can i get the 10" with the barrel extension fake suppressor and have it made permanent

I think you can change out the stock but you may need to swap the trunnion too, which is not a big deal. If your finished barrel length is 16" you're good to go. If its less than 16" and you attach a can or extension you may want to weld it so its considered permanent.

Depends on which model of krink you're building. I don't believe there are sidefolder trunnions for the 1.5mm receiver guns, but lord knows I've been wrong before. The bigger issue though is the massive holes in the receiver for the underfolder mechanism that will have to be patched and dressed down for a conversion. If you really want the side folder, it's probably best if you build it that way to begin with.

You can go either way. Depends on how you want to build it. A 16" bbl with a slip over can is nice. Since it has to be 16" anyway you might as well get the extra velocity, but if the kit comes with a short barrel it's not very hard to pin and weld a fake can.

There is no MAY here. If the barrel is less than 16" it MUST have the extension blind pinned and welded, or soldered with 1100 degree silver solder. Anything less would be a felony if attached to a rifle without a tax stamp.

Food for thought... Rivet everything but srew build the rear trunnion. It would be interchangeable but you would still have the underfolder holes.

Ps I have no idea about the mounting hole locations and if they differ. Best bet they probably aren't the same.

First, does it have to be a Krink?

You could save a lot of money and hassle with an AK kit that doesn't require so much pinning and stuff.

When I see a Krink kit, I see a nice AK pistol build or SBR build (that we aren't allowed in CA), not something to pin and fix until it's CA compliant.

It's also a first AK and from what I've seen, the Krink kits out there are virgin which means even more work, more than you could do in a single build party.

Switching stocks is kind of the easy part although that isn't trivial.

As a former metal fabricator, I felt prepared to take on a virgin build for my first kit build and long story short, it's not finished yet. If you are not experienced, make sure you have good people backing you up to make sure the build stays on track.

          Good luck but choose wisely.

            +1 for a pistol build.

If the gun is going to be a shooter, try the cheek weld on both.

I shoot the side folders well and I get a cheek weld that is comfortable for me.

The underfolders are off to the side so I find that I struggle to get a solid cheek weld. I end up rotating the rifle to bring the stock inline with my face

I also prefer the deployment of the side folder over the underfolder...

If pinned, this is not really an issue

                  Lazyme The Yugo m92 is a 1mm flat not a 1.5mm.

Tula 86 Krink kits are $790 shipped from rguns. you'll need a receiver--could be as cheap as ~25 for a flat or $200 for a 74ullc custom receiver. you'll also need a barrel, rguns has 8" and 16" but are not cold hammer forged or chrome lined. Krinks are awesome rifles but are indeed a specialized niche in the gun/AK world.

I havent compared the two rear trunnions but from looking at the pics it could possibly be done. Wouldn't be the prettiest m92 but may be able to swap stocks.
