Cerakote help around SJ?

I've got a black kit and I think I've got an air brush and compressor that I've never used (condition questionable).

If anyone around here knows how to get good results with Cerakote and wants to give me a hand finishing my new AR, let me know.

As of now I'm waiting for a gas block, gas tube and buffer spring that should ship Thursday and hopefully arrive early next week, then I've got to Cerakote the FCG pocket, locktite the barrel (~bedding) and put it all together.

I hope to have it done some time next week. If I'm really lucky I'll get the Cerakote and barrel Locktite done this week and maybe get it sighted in as a straight pull bolt action at Chabot next weekend.

Air or oven cure? Everything must be clean clean clean, no touch up with ceracoat, first shot better be perfect or your blasting all over again.

What do you suggest for cleaning?

I could do brake cleaner, acetone or whatever else.

I use acetone, no residue, not too harsh, and cleans very well. Bake the parts to get the oils to come out and hit it with the acetone using a spray bottle.
That stuff isn't very forgiving so measure twice and cut once.

I've used Cerakote and it leave's a very nice finish. It does have to be clean. I spoke with one of the instructors at Cerakote and he said they mainly use brake cleaner and I've had good results with it.

I did notice the hardener in the bottle will go bad once it is opened and exposed to air. That was my case you may have better results as it gets pretty hot here in Texas and I had it stored in my shop.

I have a few more things to coat so I might get all of it ready before I spray.
