Does any have a tip or secret of how to remove the mag release?

Looks like the mag release is not seated down all the way. This is probably blocking the latch from rotating. Try giving the mag release a gentle tap with a brass punch and small hammer.

      It's not a screw.

I changed the release on my RIA with no problem, but I took the gun all the way down. Maybe your grips are getting in the way of removal? On my Kimber I have to take the grips off to take it down as they are a bit oversized, could be a similar issue.

I wil give that a try.
I'm aware it's a latch that needs to be turn counter clockwise.
M1kev- I was trying to remove it when the grips were off and I was installing that magwell also. I really don't want to try to break the whole gun down to change this one peice.

press the button from the other side to relieve the pressue on the tab. With a small screwdriver, turn the screw counter clockwise and it should rotate and lock down then pop the part off.

I got it out, by using a smaller screw driver, the one i was trying was too big.
problem now is mags wont feed w/o me pressing the mag release in first.

should I fine the mag release down also?

You usually don't want to shorten the width of the tab of the mag catch but making sure there is a smooth taper on the bottom will help the mag push the catch back.
Some mags seem to be extra wide and very square edged.
These tend to hang up on the catch while other mags slip in smoothly.
A little smoothing or bend-in to the mag body top edge where it hits the catch may be needed.

i'm using wilson combat mags, I'd rather alter the $20 peice than the $30 mag. what do you suggest I use to smooth out the mag release?

You only want to bevel the bottom edge of the catch ledge. A small half-round or round file can take care of it quickly. If really hard material, then VERY CAREFUL use of a Dremel can do the trick. You might be able to see a rub mark if you aren't sure where to remove the material. If you aren't sure, ask, and I'm sure someone can come up with a pic.
There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?
