    AR question

    Hello,

I recently purchased most of the parts for my AR build. When I received the upper/BCG/Charging handle I test fit the BCG in the upper. Everything fit fine but the problem is when I was taking the bolt out I pushed on the front of the bolt to remove the BCG without unlatching the charging handle(Stupid I know). Now the bolt is closed inside the upper receiver, and the bolt cam will not line up with the raceway as a result I cannot remove the BCG from the upper receiver. I have included some pictures showing how far back I can pull on the charging handle before it locks up. My question is should I continue building the rifle with the BCG stuck in the upper like this, or is it smarter to remove it before continuing? If it is smarter to remove it how can I go about opening the bolt so the bolt cam will align with the raceway so I can remove the bolt from the upper? Everything is brand new and I haven't put any rounds threw it, meaning the bolt is still a little tight in the carrier.

    Thanks

put some tape on the end of some needle nose plyers and reach through the face of the upper receiver and grab a bolt lug and pull it forward. this should cam it into correct position to pull it out.

Yep you pushed it into that position you should be able to pull it out.

      But pull and rotate it.

Thanks a lot for the information...It is greatly appreciated.

I tried pulling with a pair of pliers with some electrical tape, and the thing just wont budge...I am pulling and rotating. Perhaps a different pair of pliers will do the trick. I gave up on it for today... I will continue to try tomorrow after a good nights sleep. Once again thank you both.

If you are giving up for the night, you might gain from pouring some lubricant inside there and letting it soak overnight (a couple hours, if not minutes, would be fine though).

Sounds like a plan. I will spray some CLP in there and let it sit overnight.

your piston rings are tight so id suggest dropping some oil i to the carrier exhaust ports and holding the barrel threaded portion of the upper upright for a few minutes. You should then be able to turn the bolt counter clockwise (looking at the face of the bolt) and towards you at the same time. It will be slightly stiff since the bolt and carrier are new.

I wonder if an air nozzle shoved in the gas key would work??

CIV: I just might take you up on that offer. I'm currently in hayward, but I'm moving to concord very soon. Where are you located? Also I tried to go on the website in your signature www.civtactical.com and I was unable to gain access my browser says it is forbidden.

KC: that's a good idea I will give it a try.

Another thing I might try is to put some paracord under the bolt face, and twist using a screw driver for leverage and that could possibly work. I'm still in the city right now. Apparently the PGA US open is happening right now in SF so traffic is crazy. I will keep you all updated when I get a chance to work on it. Thanks for the input.

Success!! I was hesitant to use a lot of force with the pliers, so I decided to take a rounded shoe lace and wrap it below the bolt face(sorta like a noose)then I twisted the shoe lace in the direction I needed to bolt to go after twisting the lace about 4 inches past the face of the receiver I tied a screwdriver into the lace to use as a handle...and it worked! Drenching it in CLP did the trick, I tried this method a few days ago without the CLP and it did not work.

Thank You everyone for your input!
