    Bullet Button problem

I have a major problem that has taken up most of my evening. I took my AR out and put 100 rounds through it. 10 mag changes, no problems. put the mag in, took it home and when I went to clean things up the mag wouldn't release. I had to take the magazine apart and push the mag release from the inside. When I did, the bar broke off. Now I can't get the BB to move one way or the other. The red wrench that came with it won't do anything. Any ideas on this???

What bar broke off? Where did it break, and how the heck did you put enough force on it to break it!

I'm assuming the BB is threaded on too tight, and just wiggled its way in. The BB wrench should loosen it, this is an awfully simple contraption, shouldn't be hard to figure out what part won't move.

Simple, right? I think the castle nut worked it's way down too tight, but now how to get it out, I have the little red wrench but it has to thread on to reach the grooves, which it doesnt do now.

The mag catch bar broke when I was pushing it with my finger from the inside. Not related to the BB, but still a PITA.

You may have to get in there with a paper clip or something similar to get the castle nut off the threads. Needle fine tweezers?

I didn't think there was room for the BB to thread all the way down out of reach of the tool... Get a screwdriver that fits in the hole, cut a groove in the middle of it to clear the threaded rod with your dremel, and loosen it up. I've never seen the mag catch bar snap, and how did it break off and not just leave the bolt part free to slide through? Pics?

I had this issue last summer... I had to use a drill press to literally drill out the bullet button because I could not remove it and it would not release a magazine.

I saw this at the range last week. We took a 22 casing and made a longer BB wrench and fixed it on the spot.

After installing the bullet button, I put a tiny drop of loctite on the treads with a needle point. Enough to keep it there, yet can still be removed. Running a bunch of them that way and never had one move.

I used a dental pick to reach the BB collar nut when my red tool couldn't reach it. I think I also used a spanner plier too. If that doesn't work, use a torch to melt away the lower and pick all the steels parts out of the slag

Take a drill bit just larger than the threads on the magazine catch and drill out the threads on your BB wrench to make it a slip fit. Make sure to put the wrench in a vise or something similar before drilling, safety first.

Cool, thanks all. I am sure one of these suggestions will help (looking at melting down the lower first).

Mag catch broke right at the midpoint where the post connects to the bar.

That is the mag catch covering the SN

Well that one was defective!! Wow.

.22 casing! Great idea from Vaderspade.
