I also have a rivet gun both styles the rivet guns the regular and the long handle ones that look like bolt cutters will those work if not can somebody direct me to a website that has the bending jig and the flat metal etc thank youComment

ak-builder.com has flats and all the jigs you will need. For a cheaper bending jig check out this thread: http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=383419 I just receive mine, I haven't gotten around to bending a flat yet but it seems well made.Comment

ak-builder.com for flats, rivets, trigger guard rivet jig, barrel install/removal tools, and flat bending jig(best bending jig on the market).
Restoreit1(Pat) sells a long rivet jig that is the only one on the market I think I would buy. I made my own beefcake version after we broke several of the ak-builder jigs.
I don't think you're going to be able/want to use your riveting tools. We ain't talking pop rivets here, and setting long rivets on an AK with a pneumatic rivet gun is a PITA and unless you're really good will look like caca.Last edited by tujungatoes; 03-13-2012, 6:23 PM.sigpicOriginally posted by Dr. ElkyIf your a man who wears white sunglasses, your probably a douche bagOriginally posted by CSACANNONEERI've been know to cross dress and go the other way at certain events.Comment

I have to agree
A rattle can finish is a quick and dirty way to do a job.
Parking requires heating a liquid to 180 degrees and dunking the part in for fifteen minutes give or take. A little bead blast if you like before hand.
Parking is the chit
don't forget compliance parts. That's where the expense is.
You buy a kit thinking you're good to go only to find out to make it legal you need to sub out a bunch of parts.
My build with the build party fee was $620 approximately
Kit $400
Extra Flat $20
Trigger kit $30
Grip adapter $7
Center support $4
Muzzle brake $9
Mag $15
Bullet button $24
Shipping $30
Build party fee $60 + $10 for food and beer over two days the cheapest breakfast lunch and dinner I ever got. Twice. $2 per meal ain't bad at all.Last edited by kcstott; 03-13-2012, 6:55 PM.Comment

I think that qualifies you as an advanced newcomer, you already know how to make sheet metal do what you want it to.I'm sorry I forgot to mention I have an autoshop so I have most basic tools.

If you have a brake you can do a flat on that with a minimal cash outlay, the press plate will be specific to ak building. A brake will do an acceptable ak, more a prom date than a prom queen. If you don't need a perfect bend, brake can "git er done".Comment

As others have said, AKs use real rivets, not pop rivets.
If you are good with a brake and have at least one spare flat, bending with a brake could work but you will have trouble getting precision like an AK Builder bending die.Comment

i dont know about anyone else but im finding the price of de-milled kits starting to get ridiculous.some kits ive seen are almost twice what you would pay for the gun already built. i dont know if its the supply and demand aspect or the fact kit builds are getting more popular.sigpic
More armed citizens = Quicker response times, less victims.
Less armed citizens = more victims
Guns should only be surrendered one bullet at a time.Comment

What do you recommend for a rank beginner. The guys at the last AK build party I went to spectate at might as well be speaking Russian since I didn't understand the terminology they were using
Also I haven't had much experience with riveting. Where do you guys suggest I start?Comment

For a newbie I'd recommend a regular ol' fixed stock AK(country of origin and caliber are up to you). Stay away from the Yugoslavian variants until you're more familiar with building. They're still ak's but a certainly a different animal. What do you recommend for a rank beginner. Don't worry about lack of riveting experience. I doubt most builders had any experience setting solid rivets before we started doing this(I certainly didn't).sigpicOriginally posted by Dr. ElkyIf your a man who wears white sunglasses, your probably a douche bagOriginally posted by CSACANNONEERI've been know to cross dress and go the other way at certain events.Comment

Thanks Tujungatoes. I will try to get a fixed stock kit.
What do you think of this one? (I am more partial to 74 than 47)

I just copied this from my build party thread. It list everything you need and includes the links.
Alot of people ask how much everything costs and what they need so here is a breakdown
Romy G parts kit with original barrel $340
Polish tantal with us barrel $335
Bulgarian AK74 in 5.45 with US barrel $355
Polish underfolder with US barrel $359
AK pistol kit $499
An AK builder flat $20 -$40
Find the one that matches your kit. With or without trunnion holes is up to you. (I prefer them with)
AK Builder rivets $9 and center support $7
There are other places to get the flats and rivets but everyone will tell you to stick with AK builder stuff
Next you need a fire control group. There are so many different ones to chose from. Right now the best deal i have found is G2 fcg and a US made Slant Break Combo $25There are many others though.
You will also need a maglock or a grip wrap. We can do a group buy on these. I only use the ones from Solar Tactical. These should be about $30.
Last thing you need is a magazine. You should ba able to find a magazine by yourself.
If you want to build one with a folding stock then it must be at 30" when the stock is folded. You can put a bayonet on or use an extended muzzle brake.sigpic
