Hi all, I wanted to do a saiga conversion in the near future and I have checked out some of the tutorials already. looking at some of the kits to buy on CSS, and my question is whether or not to get one with the grip nut attached to the TG for the extra $20. Are there some rifles that have to use this grip nut set up (ie. machine compliance issues) or does this just simplify a step? My gun is a Legion Saiga 7.62x39 16" also stamped Mercury Hermes, and I think the instruction book said imported 09.

I just modded my trigger gaurd and reused it. Saved me $20 and works the same. I then just used a standard pistol grip screw(long one) and nut.
Some Saiga's will not come with the Pistol grip nut cut out in the receiver but those are rare. Look inside yours and you should see if its there or not -

If its this one then don't get it. It's too thick to attach a mag lock to.Hi all, I wanted to do a saiga conversion in the near future and I have checked out some of the tutorials already. looking at some of the kits to buy on CSS, and my question is whether or not to get one with the grip nut attached to the TG for the extra $20. The Solar Tactical has the 4 small screws that are too short for this thicker trigger guard. Would be OK with longer screws. The Prince50 just didn't fit. Those are the 2 that I tried. I can't address the Saiga 12 radlock.Comment

thank you all for the help, found and ordered the kit. I had a new question, about my saiga 12. shot about 200 rounds flawlessly through it, over the past year, cleaning out the barrel, but not the gas system. I can strip the thing, but when i get to the selector, I push down the pin, but it wont turn. I heard it could be from build up and I should get some solvent in there to break it up. any other thoughts or tips on getting the solvent in? do i just pour it from the top of the gas tube?Comment

The first few times I removed the gas plug on mine I had to push in the pin and turn the plug with a knife put it in the two notches about half a turn then I could use my fingers. Before putting it back together put some oil on the threadsthank you all for the help, found and ordered the kit. I just used this on n the S12 conversion I finished last week. It works with the Solar Tac BB all I had to do was replace the screws with longer ones and it works fine.Comment

I use regular gun oil. Just be sure to back the tap out every half turn or so after it bites and starts to cut threads. Just go slow. If it feels like the tap is binding back it out a bit and then re start it. The whole operation should only take a few minutes.
One thing to remember when drilling the hole for the bullet guide. Drill it perpendicular to the top of the receiver NOT the bottom. The bottom of the receiver is angled so if you just put the receiver flat in a drill press vice you will end up with a angled hole and a angled bolt holding the bullet guide.Poke'm with a stick!

thank you all for the help so far.
tried to build it last night, more or less it dry cycles.
perhaps I missed it but how are the pins supposed to be fixed when reinstalling them? the trigger pin wants to move in (left) when i dry cycle it a couple of times.
I have a Kvar stock and was hoping to reuse the stock screws, what size pilot holes should I be drilling?Comment
