Hey guys I'm a little confused about these, a complete ruger 10/22 is like $250 why try to build your self?

Some people only want a receiver to build a custom gun. They also like to buy them by mail and not go through the ten day wait. They can also build them into a pistol, if they want.

I woulk like to try finishing an 80% lower if I had a mill and the skill!!! Yep just for the I did it myself thing. I met a guy years ago who built a 50 cal BMG bolt rifle from scratch except for the barrel . He was a machinist[sp] also he did the heat treating .

For 80% builds I don't think they save any money where anodizing w/ shipping back and forth costs the same as a finished receiver after dealer fees. However 80% quality is way above that of the Ruger painted-aluminum receiver where mine has cast marks showing through the paint. It would be more appropriate to compare these 80% builds to a custom 10/22 receiver at the $250 level itself without any other parts.

I get to put my name on it and anodize it red to match the custom stock I have waiting.

Other 100% custom 10/22 receivers with rails run about $400.00.

$250 is a high price to pay when you think about the cost of just the receiver and all the custom build parts.

Yes if you want a basic 10/22 it doesn't make sense to buy you own unless you just want to "do it"

but if you are going full custom it's a place to start and puts saved money in your pocket for better parts.

also you get a receiver with a built in rail system on some. Besides most people buy the gun then replace every part on it except the receiver so you do save some money. I plan on buying one from tactical machining.

This is all the reason I need..... We might call them 10/22's but Ruger does not make the above rifle, I did...

And to be honest with Long gun registration around the corner, I will only choose to own free guns that I have made myself..... Screw Em!

Hey Chillypepper! Yup, 'cause we can!

Along with all the other reasons, there is nothing like shooting a firearm one makes by his own hand!
