    Options for m85 receiver

    Like the title says.....
I picked up one of the virgin m85 kits from blackthorne and am weighing my options for a receiver for the build.
I know it requires a flat/receiver made for a bulged front trunnion but unsure if it's 1.5 or 1mm
If 1.5mm what kind of modifications am I looking at to use the Bulgarian 5.45 RPK flats Curtis has available.
Also does NoDak produce the correct receiver for this build?
    Thanks in advance,
    Nico

The M85 is the short barrel version of the M95. Same receivers/flats can be utilized. Here's the the Nodak one. The NDS-Y556

The bulged trunnion Yugo AK's use the 1.5mm flat, so the Yugo flat from AK builder will work. I need to wait to see if the magazine well opening is the same however, but from Nodak's picture it looks to be the same size.

    Also note:
Also, due to the longer 5.56 mag (front to back) we have pre-cut the back of the magwell and mid rivet to allow it to be rotated into the receiver.

          Thanks for the info Mach.
The magwell is my concern also
It would be easy to use the UF 1.5mm Yugo flat for sure but need to know if the exterior of the mag is the same size or not.
If not I believe I will go with the 5.45 1.5mm Bulgy bulged RPK flat, and modify the magwell to fit the 5.56 magazines.

          Edit*
looking at the picture, and reading the description it appears the difference in the mag is front to back, and not side to side
That means the M70 Yugo UF flat is an option

Please don't do that. It would look horribly wrong with no side "dimples".

              Agree
Appears the M70 Yugo 1.5mm flat will work with minor front to back modification

The profile of the magwell openingwill accomodate the 5.56 mags without problem on the Yugo 1.5mm flat. Just make sure you use one type of mags for your build. Fitment of E. German mags differ from Polish and Yugo. The Polish mags are about 0.01" thicker than the Bulgarian 5.45 mags at the thickest point so the difference in the magwell opening isn't significant. If the 5.45 mag fit into a 7.62 magwell, then you wouldn't have any problems.

We're talking about the other way around. The concern is too much magwell for the M85/M95 magazine in an AK builder Yugo 1.5mm flat. It's confirmed by Nodak that the magazine well is longer.

I finally found a good picture of the NDS Y-556 mag well. It's nearly identical to my Yugo AK Builder flat mag well.

Longer by how much? The mags for the M85/M95 are only 0.05" longer front to back than a typical AK47 mag. It doesn't need that much modifications to the opening if at all. The more important thing is the flat sided center support for the 5.56 mag clearance.

For the flat, extending the length of the mag well is easy. We were concerned about the gap from the sides from the possible narrower M85/M95 magazines. Looks to be a non issue though from the picture I just posted. Looks like the M85/M95 magazine is just as wide at the top as a 7.62 mag.

Yes, the center support from AK Builder has to be modified to fit the M85/M95 magazine.

Pretty sure the virgin kits come with the center support.

Yes they do, but I'm not sure how they would adapt to the Yugo flat. I mean take a look at this thing.

I guess drilling out the hole on one side to the same diameter of the thick portion of that center support should work.
