Freddie coming through with all the info Thanks bro

The issue with measurement I'm having is with the front trunnion area.

My original Yugo stub measures 1.4 mm where the front trunnion meets the top tails at the bulge and then fattens out to the normal 1.6mm for the rest of the top rail area after the front trunnion section. I'm not sure If the difference came during manufacture of the receiver or during installation of the front trunnion. The .2 mm difference, at the front trunnion area on the Ak builder flat, cuases the trunnion to mount lower than it normally would with the 1.4 on the original stub...

My solution before was to bring the top rails down .2mm but now I'm going to try matching the front trunnion area on the flat to the front trunnion area on the original stub.

I'll report my finding as soon as I get another flat

Freddie you come by anytime you want for some welds.

Once the plate is made, it's maybe 20 minutes of work if I take my time.

Thinning the trunnion would take just as long except it makes the trunnion RPK specific and weaker.

Spread the labor of making a plate over several flats and you've got a better solution for just a few minutes more work.

I also get to fix the flange thickness problem you identified with a high degree of precision.

Any way the solution satisfies the "modify the least expensive part" principal, my "fix what's broken" principal and it's just the right thing to do if you aren't building AKs with rocks in Afghanistan.

Be sure to show us what you come up with and the reciever when you are finished. If more people run into this problem you might be able to provide a great service.

Lots of good info going on in this post. Still doesn't make up for the fact you ruined a $37 flat...

It looks like my project is getting delayed because some piece of **** broke the window on my car and grabbed the bag that had my side folder, RPK flat and RPK trunnions.

There were a few other items as well, grand total ~$700, grand theft.

The security camera got a half decent picture of the theif but I'm not sure if the police will follow up on it.

But I'm going to follow up on it.
