    Drilling out bolt catch hole

I WAS WRONG!! Thank you Larry and everyone else who posted!!!

    Everyone has been so helpful!

I had a couple of other 80% paperweights lying about and the beautiful one from Colfax was burred. I pulled out one of these other 80%ers and worked on it thinking it was the Colfax one.

I did some more digging and found the beautiful lower Larry sent me last fall - wow it is so much nicer than the one I have been playing with these past couple of days!

But the good thing is I have learned a lot about how to go about this and look forward to working on the beautiful Colfax Tactical 80% which DOES have the bolt catch hole drilled out.

Larry offered to help me, as well as sent me information on building a block jig to help drill out the bolt catch hole on this other lower I had.

I cannot say enough how impressed I am both in the Colfax Tactical 80% lower and with Larry's help!!

That hole should be there already.

I have seen 80's without the hole, if that's what you got that sucks.

The way I've seen it fixed is you get a really long drill bit, 6" I think, clamp the receiver mag well down in the vise of your milling machine, move the receiver to the right location under the drill bit and without turning the motor on, start the hole by turning the drill chuck by hand. Once you are past the corner of the drill bit you can turn on the motor and drill the rest of the way through.

It's tedious but it works. I learned the turn the drill chuck by hand bit watching a friend do that fix (DarkCBR something).

    Good luck.

All Colfax Tactical jigs come with that whole drilled... If it is not (probably not CT lower) But please contact Larry or me and I will help you get a new one... Btw my jig allows you to do that hole so I can help if need be.

I don't believe the 80% without the bolt hold open hole that i saw was a Colfax but in the case I saw, it had to be fixed rather than sent back because the FCG pocket had already been milled.

Moral of the story: check your 80's before your build party, hopefully with enough time to get a return worked out.

Ya know what... my first thought was "but this IS a Colfax Tactical 80%..." but then I remembered I already owned a number of other 80% lowers when I purchased the 80% lower and jig from Colfax last fall.

I dug through my stuff and only found one other 80% lower, not two, and the one I found looks identical to the one I just milled (actually drilled) out...

Too funny, now what the heck did I do with my Colfax lower!

I may take your offer to rent your mill to do the other lower that I can put my hands on and drill out the bolt catch hole on this one...

Judging an AR by AK standards is just wrong...
