I built this a while ago but was never really happy with the "distressed/worn" finish I ended up with. Basically, I just parkerized the rifle and hit it with a brillo pad to wear the finish.
So, I decided to start again. This time, I parkerized and then followed up with a coat of matte black duracoat. Then, I beat the snot out of it by sanding, filing, gouging, banging, dragging, kicking, whacking, scuffing and rubbing the finish until I was satisfied that it would make the Taliban proud. Then, I used some Brownell's Rust Blue solution and applied a good layer to the exposed metal. Once this oxidized I just gently buffed it down with some steel wool dipped in WD-40.
Recently, I ran across a really cool Wooden grip that had a lot of character to it at the Reno Gun Show. After installing the grip, I remembered that I had a spare AK74 front end not doing much in my parts drawer. Twenty minutes later, I had a cool 74 FSB/brake installed. I drilled it out to .375" on a lathe to give the .30 cal projo enough clearance and I have to say, it looks great.
Here is the result:
