    Cerakote question.....

    Hi Guys,
If anyone has experience cerakoting fire arms. I'd love to hear tips and tricks.

From a previous post i've found out that i should i leave the parkerizing on.

What degreaser do you prefer ?

what temp do you bake your gun parts at after degreasing ?

Would you fit all new parts before or after applying cerakote ?

is there a fairly affordable air brush that works well for this ?

Did you bake at 300 or 200 and why ? did it result in a different finish?

Any info would be amazing ! I'm in the socal area if there are any locals who do this kind of work and want to impart some sagely advice

Paint thinner works well. Do a search in this section for Roccobro's coating party and there is all the info you should need. We used the HB air brushes with great success.

The most important thing is the bake out any oil from assembly. A heat gun works well. It was the most time consuming part.

We didn't filter it and it was a lil thick. We had to up the pressure on the air. Came out a little thick but had a pretty cool rough texture. Next time, I will use the provided filter.

I would bake your parts after degreasing, before spraying.

Several hours at ~275f will make all the solvent and any residual moisture evaporate.

I have also heard that pre-heating your parts before the spray does nice things but ask NIC about that if you want to try it.

              Hello all,

I have attached some links for everyone to reference for proper application of Cerakote.

The first one is a link to our Training manual, this is a step by step application guide that gives you detailed instructions on the proper application. Please refer to the table on pg 7 for the mixing ratio(Cerakote to hardener) as this will control the amount of gloss on you firearm.

The second is our YouTube video.

Lastly, if you do not have the equipment to do the application I have provided a link to our applicator search map.

If you have any additional questions please call us toll free 866-774-7428

Thank you for your interest in Cerakote

I used Cerakote on a 80% lower I machined at home. The instructions make it look fairly daunting, but it was pretty easy.

I followed the cleaning and blasting instructions to a "T" and sprayed it with a $7 Harbor Freight air brush hooked up to my compressor. It sprayed on thin and even. After baking the parts in my oven (it makes a little bit of a nasty smell that dissipates pretty quickly), this is what I put together...

I only have a few hundred rounds through it, but so far there is no finish wear inside the upper receiver. I can't say the same thing about the receiver I anodized at home.
