    5. what type of solution are you boiling them in. just plain tap water? distilled water?

    6. Do you just let them air dry? Or can you use a hair dryer?

    Thank you.
    I used distilled water

I was doing two kits at the same time so I let them air dry but an air dryer would work well. The parts are hot when they come out and dry within 10 minutes.

Beautiful job! Wished I'd thought about the bluing option when I built my AK.

Glad to hear of your recovery.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Did you blue the parts before you assembled? How did you blue the receiver?

I blued all parts prior to assembly, as the finsh is pretty durable. It's actually in the metal as opposed to on the metal like paint. So light scratching is not a big deal, deep scratching will surely get back to bare metal.

The receiver was no different a process as I described above. Blasted it with 80 grit glass then applied solution, let it rust, boil, card, repeated once more. What I like about this method is if later I want to, I can disassemble and degrease the parts then reblue them again, without having to strip the blueing I have already one, if I get some deep scratches.

I finished the second one I was working on in parallel, though the muzzle is a little tight going on, even after lubing it up and cranking on it. I think my problem was that I did not remove the original muzzle break until the end for assembly. I also need to tune the action on them. Enjoy the new pics and closeups.
