I've heard of guys threading these holes, then putting long allen headed hole plugs into them, and filing (gringing on the indise) both sides flush.

Might work for you... I'd top tht off with a weld outside and a grind if it were me, and test fire with a LONG string

What kindof wall thickness do yOu use when sleeving a barrel?

Depends on how bad someone f***ked up. I'll take it down so I can get full penetration when welding up the hole. Leave as much of the chamber face intact as possible, even machine a step into the sleeve need be. Make the sleeve to fit the trunnion accordingly.

I've heard of that too. The problem is that threading turns a small stress riser in to a big one, cracks propagate and then it's scrap.

Of course those cracks might never start either, in which case threading would work and also locktite (with no threads) would work.

I just believe in the "first do no harm" principal so I try not to make new stress risers (be they hole or thread).

The key is practice on your own s**t and know what your getting yourself into, study, study, study.

+1 on the new barrel idea.
Trying to weld a hole shut in the chamber of a barrel is beyond what I feel comfortable doing to ANY gun I plan to shoot.
Not to say it can't be done. Just saying 'I' personally wouldn't do it.

Didn't get a chance to take pictures last night, but deffinately will tonight. I wan't people to see what NOT to do. It was a complete accident, as I know not to drill those until the barrel was out, but I thought I was drilling a different rivet. Live and learn. I should have my new barrel by next weds.

It happens.... I've never drilled into a chamber, but I have riveted a safety stop onto the wrong side of a AK receiver before.....The really silly part is I did not notice it until AFTER I had fully assembled and painted it.

During that build I was thinking... Man this rifle is going together really nicely, no issues at all.
