AK receiver flat???

I've never built a gun from the ground up. I was at a gun show a few weeks back and a booth had AK plates that hadn't been folded into a receiver yet. They said you could buy the plate and there wouldn't be a 10 day wait but you would need to do it yourself. Has anyone done this? Is it hard to to? Is it true that there is no 10day jail and once you have it built (folded) do you need to have it DROS'd or registered? Can it be registered as either a rifle or pistol? Thanks

Thanks for the redirect. Looks like an AK build party would be fun. I own numerous guns, picked up an AR lower today, I just have never built one and thought it would be neat to actually build my own. Just trying to make sure, I hear so many conflicting stories, especially in this state one has to be careful to follow all the rules.

No, no 10 day wait (although sometimes it's more than that waiting for parts to ship)

No, no registration required on a home built gun for your personal use.
Yes, the flat can be built into either a rifle or pistol so long as the laws are followed specific to it's configuration.

A lot of people do this and really enjoy it including me. Check out the stickies on top in this forum and they will answer some of you questions. and yes there is no requirement to register a home build which means no 10 day wait for you.

I highly recommend you go to your first BP as an observer so you can see what is involved before diving in. Reading about it is one thing actually seeing people building from a flat is priceless experience.

I went to a build party not knowing jack about AKs and after my second build party, I built an AK myself. Find a kit with an original barrel for your first build. It will make your life a lot easier. Buidling an AK is really nothing like building an AR. You can almost feel the AKs coming to life with every rivet you crush.
