Hello everyone, so here's what's up. Just recieved my demilled Galil reciever pieces in the mail today! They look great. Except for the markings. It says "F.A. Galil" on the side. I realize that this metal is NOT a firearm, and when it is turned into a semi automatic rifle of my own creation, it will be an American made firearm with no need for any markings at all unless I choose to put them on. I plan to do so. But, no matter what I write on it, it still says "Galil" which is obviously on the AWB list. So, do I need to remove this marking? Or can I just put my marking on it and be GTG? I really don't know what needs to be done. I wish it came with the writing in Hebrew like the one Grossekatz welded up. Anyway, I searched and searched again (all over the web) and can't find this addressed, probably because it's a California only issue. What do you think?

Thanks for the response. It actually reads like this:
F.A. GALIL
5.56 mm
(IMI)
-but instead of parentheses, "IMI" is in an oval.PRO PELLE CUTEM

From a legal standpoint, you are the new manufacturer, not IMI so an AW charge wouldn't stand.
From a practical standpoint, it might cause some drama if inspected by a police officer that knows the "assault weapon" ban but doesn't know about home made guns.
If you are going to keep it in your safe, I don't think the risk is high. If you will be taking it to the range or transporting it often, the chance of causing drama will increase a lot.Comment

That sucks.
This is the same reason I don't get "Colt" engraved on
my AR receivers.
I agree that it's a new manufacture, and that the original markings mean squat. But it's just to risky.
Does Apex have any other stubs marked differently? Might be worth a call and explanation.Comment

I have a few pieces from my cut receivers and none are marked that way. Can you post a picture? I might trade with you.
Bottom line - you can't get convicted for it, but arrested from an unknowing cop? Who knows......Originally posted by BhobbsIf self reliance is the cornerstone of a free society, self defense is the tip of the cornerstone.Comment

Sure thing, I'll post pics tomorrow. It would probably help this thread out. More to come!PRO PELLE CUTEM

That's also a possibility. It just doesn't look too good so far, man. The semi auto Galils from IMI that I've seen online say "S.A. Galil". So, not only does it say IMI Galil, it goes ahead and abbreviates "full auto" as well. Maybe I'll make it read "F.A.GAUL". LOLLast edited by Arisaka; 06-18-2011, 8:45 AM.PRO PELLE CUTEM

awesome post! I was gonna ask the same question. I actually started welding a hebrew mark APEX receiver last year, that looks cool and even has the IMI logo on rear stub, but had issues with the headspace so decided to scrap the project in lieu of a M64 weld build, but was going to start another one with the other APEX galil cut pieces....although only one is weldable and it has the FA Galil markings on it too.....

Looks alot like mine! I'm pretty sure that the crest on the Hebrew one is the insignia for the IDF (Isreal Defense Forces)

And here's a pic of my reciever scrap:

yeah, I welded the IDF logo on the scrap receiver, but would like to salvage it on the new build.
Here's what I've learned from the weld attempt:
Screw in the barrel (80-100lbs torque) on the front section before welding....put in a dummy round--a correct specs one(or a real one...but BE CAREFUL!!!!) set the bolt against it, add the next section and make a couple of small tack welds to keep it in place (or use a secure jig to make sure its headspace before welding). It helps if the bolt carrier is making contact with both sides of the front section too.
If you weld it and the headspace is off, or the bolt carrier isn't making bilateral contact with the front section.....your going to go bananas
I've looked at barrel shims and all kinds of options to make it work....but its just not doing it for me....Last edited by fullmettlejac; 06-18-2011, 10:16 AM.Comment

Also....remember to fill the third hole and the FA section on the right rail before ANY section welding starts to be legally safe! Use copper pieces on the inside.....
Most of the hebrew APEX receivers I've seen are torched right through the middle of logo info....if anyone has a good piece I'll trade them or buy

That's a great idea. So, you don't need to do any work to the barrel? You can just set the headspace when welding? I saw a thread somewhere else saying to torque the barrel in, check headspace, then remove material from the end of the barrel as needed. I like your way better!PRO PELLE CUTEM

Couple of other things....SARCO, Inc has badly pitted Galil barrels (AR/ARM)....I think they sell them for like 2 bucks+shipping.....I tried to rehab a couple. Used Baking soda/Vinegar/Lemon with a brush grinder and steel wool. They came out nice....but they're hit and miss from what I've seen. Probably will not use mine....because I'm not happy with some of the pitting on the threads. But for 2 bucks and times, you might get lucky.

So, if I set the headspace via the welds, I can get one of these barrels that have the gas port drilled and not worry about location of the port? Hmm.. This is sounding good. Stop me if I'm wrong here...PRO PELLE CUTEM
