Well, I got my parts kit from RPB today, and I discovered something troubling.

Apparently, the drill template I bought doesn't have a hammer hole at all (or it's placed improperly), and the safety selector hole isn't placed properly either.

Also, nearly all of the holes seem to be the wrong size - though that could just as easily be my fault or a variance in the parts kits.

    Lessons Learned:
1: Buy the parts kit before you drill the flat - even if people tell you it's right.
2: Check multiple sources for templates.

The holes are different sizes on each side. And there should only be 3 holes. 1 for the safety. 1 for the trigger. and 1 for the hammer.

Go to page 60 for the dimensions. http://www.weaponeer.net/forum/uploa...structions.pdf

My hammer hole is too far back and the safety hole it too far forward - the trigger and upper retainer holes seem to be correct though. It's not a big deal, I'll just drill new holes, but it is a bit of a pain.

          Good learning experience though.

I'll get some pictures of my m11/9 up tonight. I used cobray sideplates with an ftf bottom plate and sten mag well. No BS cobray will take at least 6 months to ship your order so don't be in a hurry.
I TIG welded the entire joints in 1-2" stiches, hardly any filler rod just fused. Then I used 60grit flap wheel on a 4 1/2" grinder to round off the corners so it looks like a bent/rolled flat. The side plates bowed out slightly from the heat but are easily straightened.

Too bad I lost that damn pin to lock in the upper to the receiver and the cocking knob (sigh).

Order from FTF if you want sideplates, and RPB for parts and such.

RPB's shipping is pretty fast (priority flat rate, shipped within 2 days of order).

I did mine from a bent flat rather than the three plate version.

Well, I think I butchered this build.

I re-drilled some of the holes, but they were too crooked, and the hammer wouldn't catch on the sear plate, so I filled the holes in with JB weld to try again (still drying). Also, I apparently bent the receiver slightly too wide (like .1 inches too wide) because the safety doesn't make it all the way across.

More than likely, this receiver is destined for the scrap heap, but it's all good stuff to know for the next one (for which I already have the parts).
