    AR Gas Piston Conversion

Since an HK416 upper is nearly impossible to get not to mention a few grand, I was wondering if anyone has any experience/thoughts on the gas piston kits on the market.

I know CMMG makes one that looks promising. I know Addax Tactical has a purpose built gas piston upper they now sell for $1K, but that's more than I was hoping to spend.

I bought & installed a piston conversion from Spikes (manufactured by Adams Arms) on one of my AR15s. A few weeks back, Spikes was selling the kit for $199 so I stepped up and got it. Installation was straight forward. Haven't had a chance to shoot it yet though.

I have seen the Osprey Defense kits out there but I haven't tried one. Got to give them points for a good domain name http://www.gaspiston.com/.

Another +1 on the Alexander Arms. Two buddies bought them at different times and both like them.

I will eventually get some mainly because of the price point.

Adams Arms for me. Wouldnt trade it for anything. Nearly 1000 flawless rounds, not one FTF/FTE on many types of ammo (all brass). Rapid fire is no problem.

I have a couple of AA kits on AR pistols and they have run great with every kind of ammo I use. 62 gr. Wolf classic is my training/practice ammo of choice.
The kits are a breeze to install and you can keep the things running with little to no cleaning, (you can now leave the oil bottle in the truck).
Grease the carrier and shoot all day long.

CDNN has the cheapest price that I have seen on Adams Arms kits but they are older kits with a bolt on solid gas key rather than the one piece carrier (you re-use your carrier).

For those who have switched - how's the recoil compared to your old setup?

I have the Adams Arms conversion kit and it gives me a little bit more recoil than the DI system.
