    Chrome Lined Mosin?

Can one chrome-line the bore of a Mosin as it is, or does the bore need to be slightly oversized before it can be chromed?

Where would one go to have this kind of work done?

    huh??

Would probably cost twice what the rifle is worth, with no noticeable end result?
    Interesting.

I guess if your bore is already way oversized, and you don't cast your own boolits, it might help.

It's not the kind of thing you have done. Either it's made that way or it aint. Besides it would just cost you accuracy wise. Why bother?

          Mosin barrels

Good condition used barrels are available.
Just traded a spare to a friend who installed it and dramatically improved his accuracy.

I just ordered a chrome lined barrel from TGI.

It's a reworked UK59 barrel with a super heavy profile but threaded for a Mosin.

It will take a lot of work but people have had good sucess with it (quarter sized 200 yard groups with surplus ammo, monster Mosin).

I'm sure it's possible to have a single barrel chrome plated but I've never heard of it being done. Small manufacturers can get lots of around 50 barrels plated, I'm not sure if it makes $ sense to do smaller lots.

The TGI barrel is a bit of a crap shoot, the extractor groove is already cut so to get it timed properly and headspaced at the same time, the barrel, bolt head, receiver lugs and receiver face may need machining.

If that sounds like a lot of work, you are right, it is.

If you like fooling around in a machine shop, it can be worth it but you could wind up sinking way more cash in to a Mosin than it will ever be worth.

I've heard the barrels are darn near impossible to get off a mosin. There are some manufacturers out there who will make a barrel threaded for a mosin, though you'll need the extractor groove cut etc. Anyways...that's a better way to go than trying to chrome the stock barrel.

I'm not too concerned about the practicality or whatever. I'm just wondering, can it be done?

Just about anything can be done, but why?

It's a good point about not being able to remove a Mosin barrel, so unless you have a new barrel to chrome line, you would probably have to chrome the barrel with the receiver attached.

You could wind up with a parade Mosin.

That might be cool, but why?
