Me and 69mach1 have searched endlessly for rattlesnakes. I guess the only time we'll actually find one, is when one is attached to a body extremity. Elusive b-stards......

it was a good idea too. Since snakes see heat, I think we would also need to set his shoes on fire to get the maximum effect.

I didn't see if you responded to the following:

When you pull back the charging handle back slow does it catch? except on the top cover near the charging handle..
When you pull it back and ride it forward does it catch?

One thing that I didn't see any respond to is the Gas Block... Did the guy who built the rifle make a 45 or 90 degree hole in the barrel for it.. It might not be getting enough gas.

                Just a thought.

Ah, nobody's concerned with repairing this thing anymore. Its all about rattlesnake hunting now. Gunsmithing AK's is so yesterday...

Specs for ejector length as measured from the outside of the receiver:

                      AK47 (7.62x39): 0.560
                      AK74 (5.45x39): 0.580
Clamp your calipers such that one arm is on the left side of the gun, the other on the very end of the ejector. Make sure the caliper is straight. Report back what you measured.

Update. I found a guy in my area who is confident he can help with my AK. I guess there are some solid people around here after all. Who thunk it? I will update this thread when I find the soilution.
1/16" is quite a large gap IMO, this means you don't have enough ejector sticking into the bolt. Measure the length to be sure it's within specs.

RLTW, I have no idea about the gas block. That's a good point that I will investigate. Also, When I pull the carrier back or let it forward the only placed that hae any real contact are the bottom of the carrier on the hammer and the dust cover at the charging handle. I was going to ask aimsmall if I should file down the dustcover were it contacts the handle.

Distance from outside of reciever to end of ejector is 17/32" Sorry it's the best I could do with no calipers.

Aim small, I plan on comming over around 1:30 or 2pm. Pm comming.

Extractor was stuck open. Looked like the bolt assembly was put together incorrectly causing some damaged to the extractor which we were able to repair. Rattlesnake still needs to test at the range but the extractor is now assembled correctly, closes all the way and moves freely. A word of advice if ever assembling these bolts, put the spring in the extractor then hold the bolt upside down and slide the extractor/spring into the bolt as one unit, if you put the spring in the bolt then drop the extractor in, the spring can hang up on the extractor which may result in damage when you try to put the pin through.

Rattlesnake, it was good times today man, looking forward to a trip to the range in the next few weeks.

Good job smalls! Those parts looked a little marred up! Many would over look that stuff, that's not a common problem.
