I wish I knew how to weld then I would get one of the milled receivers, but maybe this would be all the project I need, maybe get to and hang on to them until I feel I am worthy to accept the task...Comment

Don't scr...w th pooch guy...
Looks like quite a challenge!... I like it! Needless to say you Jedi copycats have to be careful. Those various strategically placed stickys
reminds me of bikinis, what it shows is revealing, what it covers is absolutely critical... just a reminder, use the greatest caution guys and don't mess it up for the rest of us.

Check out the pictures...It's welded up and completely legal, If you notice one of the pics has lips, eyes, and a santa hat so don't worry about how I decorate my pictures, it doesn't need to be discussed. Do you tell girls at the beach their string bikinis are too revealing or bordering on indecent exposure? No. You just look and enjoy. Same applies here....Looks like quite a challenge!... I like it! I am sorry that you really did not read my post. I said I liked what you did, saw the weld in one photo. I was reminding others, "copycat jedi", to be careful. As part of relatively small community of amateur gunsmiths/ hobbists we need to police ourselves to prevent less informed from making dumb mistakes and screwing up for you and I.Check out the pictures...It's welded up and completely legal, If you notice one of the pics has lips, eyes, and a santa hat so don't worry about how I decorate my pictures, it doesn't need to be discussed. The point of this forum is to indeed to discuss, even decorations, in a civil manner, much like the purpose of a bikini is for us to look and admire. Again nice work, might even give it go myself!

My apologies, I must not have understood the meaning of your post. I guess I'm just sensative about my decorationsI am sorry that you really did not read my post. The process? How'd ya do it
OK, thought I was being clever and the whole bikini thing just exploded, I apologize for that...
4ThSBCT Some of us "tin knockers", (super old school term for sheetmetal workers) would like to know the process that worked for you. That receiver looks pretty darn straight considering the starting point. I assume a slow process. Did some of the dimensions stretch after banging on it? Did you use any rigid jig (AK builder type)? Are the rivet holes wallowed out to any significant degree. Any obvious fatigue at the the sharp 90 degree lower bends? Thanks

no banging is needed, First I cut the center support out. Then peeled open the caved in side with large screwdrivers until it was far enough away from the bottum so I could weld the 3rd axis holes. After that bit by bit I squashed each part of the receiver in my press with some small backing plates that fit inside the receiver and flatten as much as I could of the entire thing. The plates that come with trigger guard rivet jigs works great of this step. Once I got it as flat as possible I put it in the AK builder flat bending jig and ran it through the press. After that the bottum should be good to go but the top might still be wavy or leaning but dont worry you can fix that when you rivet stuff in.
The rails....... This was the hardest part. If you lucky you'll get one with one side of the lower rail completely destroyed and one side upper semi damaged... My right side rail was completely broken off half way down so I just straightened it with pliers and welded it back in while welding shut the auto sear cut out. On the damaged right side top rail I just ground it even and rebuilt the rail with weld material...
I only had one minor crack at the bottum of the magwell so I welded that shut. Depending how old the reciever is yours might crack more when your spreading the sides.
After the rails are finished I made a block out of steel that fit square in the front of the reciever and ran the front through the press to square up the front. Then I riveted in the front trunnion. After the front trunnion is in and square everything else tends to get pulled into place as you work your way back.....The long rivet jig will pull the sides together when you do the center support and rear trunnion.Comment
