    Oven!

somewhere I came across a link to a site that showed how to make an oven to bake weapons in when doing duracoat/cerakote, but I can't find it.

does anyone here know of this site?

if you do can you post a link!

    thanks!

I second that. You then have a logical excuse to clean the oven.

Free ovens on Craigslist all the time. get an electric one and plug it into your electric dryers plug.

I'll second that. Check the throw-away junkmail like "Pennysaver" too. Lots of free stuff, people always renovating their kitchen and installing fancy new appliances, old ones still work perfectly. If nothing is available this week chances are you'll score next week.

Or ask any buddies working in construction/contracting. They get all kinds of deals on good stuff people are pitching while making renovations.

Thats a really cool oven! Does seem like a LOT of work though. Still think a free cooking oven is an easy solution and the only work is picking it up and possibly changing it's plug to match a 220v outlet in the garage. I like that the custom built oven can be purpose made for extra long lengths like barrelled actions. Seems like it would still be easier to mod a cooking oven (with say an extension added off the back) than building from the ground up.

Just pick up a dryer plug from Homeless Despot or Lowies, attach it to the wires coming out of the oven, and plug it into the dryer plug. You can even make an extension cord if necessary with hardware store parts. Make sure that you use at least #6 or larger wire, especially if you're going more than a few feet from the dryer plug to the oven. If you plan on doing lots of work with the oven, then call an electrician and get another run installed.

this is pretty cool but not the one I was looking for. the one I am looking for is a large oven, more like a cabinet or or large locker.

                    An oven like this?

Try looking at a commercial/restaurant supply house that sells used equipment. A rotisserie or vertical roasting rack stands about 6' tall and about 2' square. Dunno how much that cost.

You don't want to use a oven you cook with. The instructions for Dura-coat are very specific in that regard. The electric oven I used was a small one with a temp guage. I did a J frame Smith in black and polished the cylinder and barrel. Good luck in finding a large one for your project.

Best solution I have seen was a metal cabinet that was built at a sheet metal fabricator to a size that allowed the guts from a kitchen oven to be mounted inside and the top of the oven with the controls to be mounted on top.

If a regular (free or cheap) kitchen oven doesn't have the right dimensions, then build your own!

Use your Google-fu to search for "Powder coating oven".

A metal box of the correct dimensions, some insulation, and some heating elements from Home Depot (or the dump), and you're up and running.
People build them all the time to cure motorcycle frames and other stuff that the wife doesn't want in the kitchen.

                              Here's one of many examples:
