    Whatever you do, don't use CLR (Calcium, Lime, Rust), like I did on my Grampa's old 30-06. In my youthful innocence I neglected to wear gloves while scrubbing away with that stuff for hours on end. Suffice to say it took off the rust. And the bluing. And most of the skin from my hands.

      Grocery store vinegar (6%-10% strength)....but it takes off bluing along with other corrosion...

        1. Evapo-Rust - Works great, last forever and is environmentally friendly.
        2. Naval Jelly - Great for removing bluing, slower at rust. Works good though.
        3. Pickling Vinegar - works slowly, but does work.
        4. Deluted Muriatic acid - rarely use because of the storing and deposing problems.
