The white out I applied is NOT shown in these photos. that was put on the lug that would go down into the lower and if too long, hit the lower. That was the point to put it there to see if the lug's height, length whatever you want to call it, is what is interfering with allowing the upper to mate properly. But it never touches the lower at all. So it had to be something else that was holding it back. It was obvious (before I filed) that the sides of the lug looked like it had extra material there that should not be there. Compared to other upper I have, it confirmed this. Then I took the diamond files.. very small set, like for jewelers, and first with the three sided file to clean that area up and then with the smallest round file for the hole in the lug. I ONLY CLEANED UP THE BOTTOM OF THE HOLE, NOT THE ENTIRE HOLE TO MAKE IT OVERSIZED!!
Also, to clarify this again, when I say bottom, that is the side of the hole towards the ground when the upper in in the lower, and only about a third of the circumference of the hole with the center of that area at the 6 O'clock position. Little bit at a time always checking the fit until I had cleaned enough out to allow the pin to get through... I used a piston dead blow to TAP the pin until it would FEEL RIGHT... gotta us finese~
