sig slide warning message removal

hi,

does anyone know a simple way to remove the message from the slide? i hope it is just a printed message that can be removed with solvents. or if copper brush may work?

Are we talking about the LCI markings? You aren't just going to wipe or brush those off.

I had to buy and install a caliber x-change kit to get rid of that blasphemy. The indicator itself I could maybe deal with. But that billboard of a warning message annoyed me.

Can you feel them when you slide a fingernail across them?
If you can't feel them with a fingernail, having the slide ceracoated will cover them.
If you can feel them, the slide will need to be machined to level out the markings before the slide gets refinished.

Can't say I've seen that before, but the pic Randall posted sure looks silkscreened (though on metal, likely heat transferred.) If it is flush or just slightly proud of the base finish, it's probably applied after finishing the slide.

Have you tried various solvents (acetone, denatured and/or Isopropyl alcohol, MEK, lacquer thinner, etc)?

A carefully applied black Sharpie with the thinnest possible tip will probably do a pretty good job.

Unless you plan to refinish the slide, you're stuck with it.. it is lightly laser etched and can be easily removed using a 3M Medium Grade Aluminum Oxide Deburring Wheel. This would take some practice to make it look good, but it is very possible. I've thought about doing it to mine, as I do laser engraving at work and know how to successfully remove it. But it's not worth it to me to have to refinish the slide.

YUK! That's even worse than the LCI! And an insult to anyone's intelligence. I'm glad my Sigs are older models.

Worst case, I would try to figure a way to get just the paint off. If it was the same color as the slide you would hardly notice it.

What paint?

The markings are the RAW metal of the slide after the slide's finish was removed via laser.
Are you proposing to strip the rest of the slide so it's all raw stainless?

Whoa, I don't think I would've entertained purchasing that abortion.
It is what is keeping me from buying a GP100. The ugly billboard.
