    Thread Protector is stuck on

Hi. I for the life of me cannot get my thread protector off! Its become pretty damaged, and while I'm okay with throwing away the thread protector once its finally off, I am afraid that the threads may be damaged.

I need some help getting this mother ****er off. Its seriously stuck so throw all your ideas my way.

    Thanks.

Put some heat on it. Maybe soak it in some CLP or oil.

Heat it up a bit with a micro torch.

This plus pipe wrench. A pipe wrench won't "crush" the protector against the barrel threads.

How do I test to make sure my rifle is ready to fire? I'm pretty uneducated in regards to this stuff and I wrapped my barrel in a towel and put it in a vice.

Thankfully it wasn't tight enough to hold the barrel tightly (it rotated with my pipe wrench) and then after further researched I learned this was a terrible decision.

I do not want my gun blowing up in my face, so I need to be sure its safe to fire.

Perhaps its best if I find a gunsmith to do this for me/test the safety of my firearm.

Use some heat and some bees wax, or take it to your local smith

Nope, not yet. Its stuck on there real good. Hooked a wrench on it snug and hit it with a hammer a few times and it still wouldn't knock itself free.

                    Gotta go buy a torch.

Use a dremel with a cutting wheel...cut a longitudinal slot (front to back) until you're just above the threads...

Then insert a small chisel in the slot and "break" the protector...

When broken, the protector can be spun off as the two different thread surfaces (barrel and protector) will have partially separated from each other

If it comes down to it I will do that. There is no point trying to save this thing in its current state.

Thank you everyone for your help.
