    PSL Barrels

    Whats the desire?

I found a supplier of barrel blanks that would allow me to price these at the same price as Prexis yet with a One month wait.

Looking for feedback before I drop coin on a stack of blanks

    Don't just look for feedback.
Collect enough of a deposit to cover your costs.
LOTS of people will tell you they will buy one and then those very same people are nowhere to be found when you are ready for payment.

The ones who will give enough of a deposit to cover your costs are far less likely not to pay for the rest of the barrel when it's done.
And even if they do, you are only out the labor and can still sell the barrel to someone else to recoup your labor.

I'll buy one for a spare. Can you make a dp28 barrel? Lots of dp28 kits out there but no barrels.

Yeah I know how that goes. I had a bunch of guys begging for custom drop floor plates on another board. then came time for the buy in, "out your money down to get on the list" Nothing but crickets.. Actually the barrels I'm looking at I could buy five blanks and not be very deep. 10 blanks would worry me if I couldn't sell four barrel pretty quick.

Custom contours require a custom price.

I have worked out a heavy barrel with a custom adjustable gas block. it's not cheep. but with the cost of the new barrels I can get I can knock the price down a bit but not much.

I was simply thinking a PSL contour for $200

I can make you anything you like so long as I have a print or a model to work off of. Problem will be getting a old barrel to work off of.

nice to see someone making the psl barrels, too bad the kits have dried up , still I don't see you having a problem selling those though, there's guys with kits just waiting...

Here's a DP barrel, the hard part is the interrupted threads, and getting the barrel lock recess indexed, DP barrels would sell pretty easy too,

Yeah that wouldn't be a fun project. Way too much fixturing involved to properly datum index the barrel on a machine i need to tear down and use for other stuff. I'f i had a dedicated lathe to bolt a fixture in, sure but it would still be a $1200 barrel.

Come on KC, somebody needs to make a decent one!

While functional, this barrel is lacking on cosmetics. Still.. Glad to have it though, nobody else is making them.

While your at it.. How bout some PKM or ZB37 barrels? (Smiley face wink emoji)

I'd grab a ZB barrel if the price was right.

anybody would grab any barrel if the price was right.... For them...

See heres how it works guys. I have about four to six hours of labor per PSL barrel tied up. If I can get green mountain blanks for $66 a piece then charge $250 out the door for my time and include shipping thats about $150 in my pocket or 37.50 per hour. so there is an incentive to make them faster. Granted in a production run I should be able to get three done a day or more it's still time consuming. I don't have a CNC lathe with a bar feeding collet system and a programable follow rest. If I did I could run the shop lights out and come back in the morning to a pile of profiled barrels.

See my fear in building something like that, is how the barrel locks up. if i get a crap or slightly out of spec receiver then the threads won't be timed correctly. and someone else gets a slightly looser or tighter receiver and my barrel don't work.

I'd have to see a complete weapon to look at what I'd be allowed to get away with. but typically interrupted threads have to be timed just right or they're scrap. that requires a at least on a manual machine that the barrel needs to hit a fixed stop in the spindle to have the threads start and stop at the same place every time. i.e. fixturing and proper set up just to run one small feature on the barrel. again not fun on a manual machine.
