Great looking build, sorry about the optic...The first thing I would do is
fit an extended ejector before Installing the new optic to help avoid
    the same scenario.

    Good luck.

      Thanks.
Something needs to change. Im actually thinking about filing it down. Before doing that, I want to try an 18lb spring I have laying around. The reason for filing it down is because the bottom 1911 ejects forward and to the right. The top one is the new one, and seems to be going back. I havent shot it enough times to figure out exactly where its going.

Check the extractor tension and make sure it is not clocking first. That is what I would do.

Then, to slow down the slide (if that is what the issue may be) use a 25 lb. Hammer spring and Square bottom FP Stop instead of the heavier recoil spring. Again, that is what I would do.

Whats a good way to test extractor tension?
I dont think its clocking. Unlike my other 1911, this one has a tight firing pin stop. I had to drive it in with a brass punch. There is no visible gap between the rear of the extractor and the firing pin stop.

Sorry about optic. Good looking gun!

Have you seen or shot a S&W E Series 1911? I think a ejector like the E Series 1911's have would work with the Optic.

Nice job! More info on homemade jigs would be interesting.

If there is no clocking, that is a very good thing. To check tension, here are these gauges. They are used with cheap (think thin tip) trigger weight gauges.

Also, can you take a picture from the top of the slide to see how the head of the extractor on both slides sits in relation to the ejection port?

They make an extractor bender (could make another home made jig). I usually bring my extractor tool to the range with me, and a good file and I tune the ejection to be exactly where I want it. I usually try to get it to leave the gun at a 45 degree horizontal angle, and leave as close to straight to the right as I can. It will take a whole shooting day to get it right, but a whole day shooting is a win in my book.

Just an update to the Vortex Viper warranty.

03/01/2017 - Called Vortex. They emailed me a warranty form.
03/03/2017 - I shipped the optic only to Vortex via USPS.
03/06/2017 - They emailed me confirmation that they received it.
03/08/2017 - I received a FedEx tracking notification from them.
                    03/14/2017 - Package delivered.

They sent me a whole new one. Shrink wrapped retail box and all. Im very happy with that.

I filed down the ejector, took it to the range, and had someone record a video of it. Its flying pretty hard to the right, up and back. No marks on the optic, so Im going to leave it as is.

                      That is excellent news.

So your ejection pattern has changed for the better, right?

I think so. I never really knew where it was going to begin with. It could have changed with the break in, or with the filing, but no issues at this point. So yeah, that's good.
