I'm not sure if you smith is an 07 then... and 07 is friggin expensive. and all 07's are manufactures, some do small quantity and others do production runs.
    but they are all 07's

And I'll be picking up a Pantograph soon. it takes longer to engrave but at a $600 investment you can't go wrong.

And how much would you charge for 3x engravings, K-man? One AR, One AK, one 1911. Hell, maybe even another 1911.

No FFL in SD wants to touch finished 80% guns.

Well considering what I paid at a trophy shop I'd price it the same once I got the machine dialed in. I'm thinking $50 each but that may change depending on how fast I can bang it out. Fortunately I have lost count how many person firearms I need to serialize so I'll have plenty of practice.

Awesome. Know that I'll be interested for sure. I can even be your first customer. I'm not even looking for impeccable quality either, but still better than chicken scratches.

I am looking to get a few completed 80% lowers engraved or etched.

The electro etching looks interesting, but I don't know how to do the stencil.

Any recommendations? I would prefer to take it into a shop if there is any place in the bay area that can do it.

I have an ak and an ar lower I would like to get marked.
If you go the electro-etching route, I used diylettering.com , the cost per item for unweeded stencils was super cheap.

I used the web interface to design the layout, and I was able to repeat the process and simply change the applicable characters for each stencil by using the back arrow after adding the initial design to my cart.
For the selector marking I simply put FIRE and SAFE on separate lines, and created a margin by adding few spaces before and after the words, and extra lines between.
I used 1/8 inch (0.125") letters in Arial Black font on Standard Calendared Vinyl with the "Cut Out DIY - Weed and Tape Yourself" option.

Honestly, weeding out the tiny letters and electro-etching took a LOT of time, so you have to decide what is the best option: spending time or spending money.

Edit: For me it was lack of engravers, the only one who would do it in my area quoted high price, which became an exorbitant price when doing multiple lowers.
edit edit: Also if your 80%'s are anodized, electro-etching really wont work for you.

well I can stamp crooked letter now. But you'll have to use a single stack mag after i crush the mag well.

Pantograph is ordered. should be here in a week or so. I'll have something to play with over Christmas holiday

He could have been mistaken regarding price, I don't know, but he told me that 07 means he doesn't have to sell guns (that he can just transfer them instead) and that it was cheaper.

I thought all gunsmiths needed an 07, just didn't know if there were multiple types.

The 02/07 package is the expensive one.
That the "special occupational taxpayer" setup needed to make/sell all sorts of NFA stuff without having to pay the $200 making tax on each one you build.
An 07 does get you sucked into paying the $2500 annual ITAR registration as well where an 01 does not need to pay ITAR.

I have a completed lower without serial. Is there anyone up near the east bay who can engrave the required information?

I was also under the impression that an 07 was $3000 my mistake.
