    marking lower

    Howdy,

I am looking to get a few completed 80% lowers engraved or etched.

The electro etching looks interesting, but I don't know how to do the stencil.

Any recommendations? I would prefer to take it into a shop if there is any place in the bay area that can do it.

I have an ak and an ar lower I would like to get marked.

If you want to do the etching yourself, you can have any sign shop cut your stencils from vinyl.

Is etching deep enough for ATF?

              ATF requires 0.003" deep markings.
Etching can be done 0.020" deep pretty easily.

I'm thinking that the "recognized abbreviation" means something like Bob is OK to use in place of Robert, Bill for William or even Nacho for Ignacio.

I'll likely leave my middle name off, but wouldn't be willing to abbreviate my full first or last name to a single character.

Does anyone know of an engraver who has an FFL?

Most ffl holders won't mess with 80% lowers. I don't know if it's a legal reason or if it's just because if you buy an 80% you have cut them out

Seems like if you want to serialize finished receivers one of you would need to be an 07 manufacturer.

Since most aren't manufacturers you'd be outside your license.

Wouldn't it then mean recognized nickname not abbreviation?

The recognized abbreviation for the bureau of alcohol tabacco and firearms is BATF not bur of al, ta and fa. The recognized abbreviation for the Central Intelligence Agency is CIA not cen in ag. The recognized abbreviation for the federal bureau of investigation is FBI not female body inspectors, um wait...

                          Sorry, not sorry.

Is there a difference between an 07 and and an 07 manufacturer? The FFL I use is an 07, he said it was cheaper (by $50/year or something, not enough to really notice) and meant he doesn't have to stock guns.
