The buffer detent locates the buffer when the rifle is disassembled.
Screwing the buffer tube in or out has NO effect on the location of the buffer at rest on the detent as you can not move the detent by turning the buffer tube.
Screwing the buffer tube in and out DOES effect how much travel the bolt has behind the bolt stop.
Screwing the buffer tube in too far can also get the buffer tube to crash into the receiver.
If your carrier is short or your buffer tube hole is too far back, swap in a different carrier and see if that fixes it.
Another solution is to face the front of the receiver to move the barrel ad carrier back a bit in the reciever, but then you start fooling with the feedramps and feed geometry which is not a good place to be messing around.
