    Cutting A2 stock

Well, my cheap side came out. Does anyone know how much more I can trim at the receiver end without making it too weak?

    Thanks in advance!

Why does it look like you are making a defacto thumbhole stock?

From the looks of things, you don't have a cheap side.
    It's not PTSD, it's nostalgia.

It's no more thumbhole than a Thordsen FRS. Not a thumbhole until the parts come together and touch...

I'm pretty comfortable that reshaping a stock doesn't meet the definition of making a hole.

I just don't want to trim too far and have the stock become useless. I'm liking the way it feels.

If you feel good about it, call it a day. It looks good!

Thanks. Looking at it, I'll probably just round off the bottom a bit more and call it done.

That part of the stock does not add much to the strength of the stock. It is the buffer tube that is the structural part of the stock and that ties in at the butt.

                Nightforce + LaRue = cheap?

                Does not compute...

Sorry, cheap meaning not spending another $100+/- on a new stock.

I do tend to buy once and cry once. But sometimes the price of simple ar parts seems silly to me.

My concern was having the front end of the stock crack off under moderate lateral pressure. If I trim it up too far for maximum thumb relief, the material could get really thin at that end.

I guess I was hoping someone would have already "trimmed too far" and found out before I ruined a stock.

Fill with with foam when all set. Will add very minor structural support and will eliminate the hollow sound.

That's what I was thinking - fill with foam and possibly spray with something like this?

You're good to go OP. You wont be going around and buttstroke anything, would you? Just fill the exposed part with putty (I used JB weld) and sand it to shape.

                              Silly question-

Isn't it easier and cheaper to cut the back of the grip to fit the stock perfectly flush? Or with a 1/4" gap if desired?
