Here is another option. Left hand, non-reciprocating, and works with a standard BCG. https://rouschsports.com/shop/ar15-u...est-available/

            Try it, you'll like it.
Live with it for a while and the rear charge will start to feel like an ill-conceived piece of crap.

              Side charger thumb:

This happens when you are USED TO a rear charging AR and then make the mistake of locking the bolt to the rear on a side charger AR and then using the bolt release like you are used to.

I would not own BOTH standard and side charging AR's as each will teach you bad habits for the other.
Stick to either ALL standard AR's or ALL side chargers and you would be fine.

Very nice! For pistol builds, I'd agree that left side, non-reciprocating, is the way to go. For a rifle build, right side all the way, and reciprocating is no biggie since the handle acts as the deflector. Unless you're a lefty I guess...

                  Left side reciprocating?

The bolt carrier, buffer and spring will make a non-reciprocating handle move forward really quickly if you pull the charging handle back, lock the bolt to the rear and do NOT return the handle forward.

Ahh, would benefit from some mechanism to return the handle home upon release, regardless of bolt position... added complexity galore

I believe the one I linked has a return spring. You can see the allen cover on the back. But, no FHE yet.

That Rousch ain't bad, I like that it requires no additional non-standard parts

^^ Yes, I do want to try one on a build. Also, unlike other non-reciprocating left sides, the bar attached to the charging handle does not extend out the back of the receiver when it is back.

The standard at charging handle does not have a return spring and will do the same thing if you do not reset it.

right. but it's a little more obtrusive, so harder to overlook, and won't catch your thumb between it and the bolt release should you forget
