I tried the rubber mallet, and no open...think I should try a big hammer?

No locksmith here, but sounds like your little wheelie deals are sticking. Here's what worked for me...dial the numbers to open the safe, but stop at each number and give several good hard whacks (above or below the dial) with the deadblow mallet. If this works, keep open (for the love of God)...take off the interior door cover, open the little box that is the back of the lock, and shoot a couple small shots of gun scrubber or brake cleaner down into it.

Oh yeah, then re-assemble and test before you shut the door.

Put a spotlight on the dial for a good long while. The warmth will free up the dried oil.

don't hit it with a hammer if it has a relocker on it .
