My thought on the CR is, when the OP changes guns, he won't have to get a new set of holders...and changing guns, if he stays with the game, is almost a sure thing.

Cheap basic ipsc gears setup?

Some great advice already given, especially from GeoffLinder. Here are my quick top 5 tips I share with new competitors, some of it is gear related. Nothing ground breaking, just some fundamentals:
1. You cannot have enough mags. Seriously.
2. Belt stiffness is not judged by casual comfort, but by it's ability to hold form when a holstered loaded gun and 4-6 loaded mags are hanging from it.
3. Say so long to the finish on the front of your slide from holster wear, remembering that you will draw a hundred practice times from your holster for every one time in a competition. Also the magwell on your frame is about to get chewed up. Your gun will never be a safe queen ever again.
4. Snap caps, and not 2, at least a mag or three's worth. During your dry-fire routine you'll want to practice smoothly racking out a round and continue triggering your way through your targets like nothing happened.
5. From this day forth there is a powerful magnet on the front of your barrel. Pick a wall in your house/garage where you will dry-fire at targets and don't let the barrel point anywhere but at it. Discipline yourself to NEVER slack with this one, then apply it to the front berm when at the range for practice or comp. Even when doing nothing but mag change practice, face in this wall direction.IDPA - SSP/ESP/CCP | USPSA - Production/L10 | Personal Handgun InstructorComment

Single mag pouches conform more easily to your waist line. So when you sweep your weak side for reloads, they space out in a more even direction, that's all. Until you shoot at least "B' in USPSA, it really won't make that much difference. If you are a newbie, don't worry about it.Comment

Some gun clubs/competitions forbid Blackhawk! Serpa holsters (like this). Check first.- It is no longer Republican vs Democrat; the battle of the 21st century is authoritarian (Rep+Dem) vs libertarian.

Why would anyone wants to use a holster with locking function, especially Serpa in competition? It only slows you down in scoring. Some gun clubs/competitions forbid Blackhawk! Serpa holsters (like this). Check first.
Unless this was their issued holster and they want to practice with it.Comment

What highlander said is absolutely right on as usual however I will say if your making the investment why not go with the singles as that will likely be what you will progress to in the future. Assuming your wanting the doubles due to the cost savings.

No organized competition prohibits the retention Serpa model, however some training schools have banned them because of the higher number of idiots shooting themselves. There is no need for retention in competition.Comment
