    3-gun competition

I had a couple questions and hoping some of you can assist. I'm looking into competing in 3 gun. Does your pistol "have" to be somewhat modified?

For shot guns, do they require you to "have" at least a 21' inch barrel.

I'm asking because I don't have a modifified gun. I have a shotgun but its not 21'inch. BUT I want to try to run with what I have.

Any suggestion would be appreciated . Thanks!

    No modifications are absolutely required.
What pistol, rifle and shotguns are you using now? Most likely, they will be fine to use. Equipment is grouped by Divisions so depending on what you have, you will find a home for your stuff.

Thank you for replying so quickly. I only have a glock 17, a m&p AR 15, and a benelli m2 18.5 inch shot gun.

I just want to have a good time. I'm not gonna try to be a champ or anything but for the love of the sport of shooting firearms, I just want to try 3-gun competition.

I've always heard the saying ..run what you brung..lol

You definitely have what's required. Got enough rifle and pistol mags for a stage? 30-40 rifle and 30-40 pistol on the high end per stage. Got something to reload your shotgun? Shell caddies or load vest?

I don't have the shell caddies or load vest but I can get those. Unfortunately I have to comply with California rules. I have 4 mags maxed out at 10 for glock. 6 mags maxed out at 10 for AR.

I could buy more mags but everyone is back ordered! What division would I fall under with the equipment I have?

You got plenty of mags, no need to buy more.
For Divisions, what optic is on your AR, Glock and shotgun?

For my AR I have aimpoint scope. That I still need to learn to zero in lol

My glock and shotgun, just stock. Can you recommend an optic?

If you have a Red Dot or Irons, then Limited or Tac Iron Division.
If you have a 1-4x scope then Tactical Division (the most populous).
For beginners, shoot what you have and see if you like it. For Tactical, it's hard to beat a Burris Tac30/MTAC. I shoot this optic now.

For irons only, shoot Tac Iron or Limited.

If you've never shot any type of match before, it's a really good idea to shoot some pistol matches to get up to speed on how to handle yourself safely, understand range commands, 180 rule, etc. eg IDPA, USPSA, action pistol, etc. Your Glock will serve you perfectly for this. There's a lot to be concerned with in 3 gun, given the three guns and all...

I've done steel challenge a couple times. Does that count?
