I recently got into shooting 3gun and purchased a few California Competition Works 6 round shell caddies. I've also just purchased a Safariland ELS belt and would like to convert the caddies from the original clip that came on it to the ELS attachment, so that I can remove them easily during non shotgun stages. Does anyone have any experience with doing this?

+1 for AP Custom 4x4
youre gonna need as many shells as you can get on your belt for certain stages.
i run 3 of the APC 4x4's and one CCW 4x for slugs. so thats 28 shells on my belt with only 4 spaces taken up. you dont have enough room on your belt to match that with only 4x or 6x caddies.Comment

I've got all of those holders. I use 3 4x4's on the belt, but I keep a couple of CCW 6 round holders in my bag just in case. Had a few local stages that ran more than 48 rounds
Darn, just realized I didn't answer your question. Looks to me, the QLS kit would work. Worst case, get a piece of 1/4 lexan, match the holes on the CCW holder (countersinking the heads so it's flat), do the same for the ELS mount from the other side. An added advantage....it moves the holder 1/4 inch further from your belt. It's what I did to add TekLok belt attachments to mine.Last edited by kmca; 03-08-2013, 9:46 AM.Comment

Thanks kmca. That sounds like my best option right now. I'd love to have three of the 4x4's on my belt but can't justify dropping $200 right now.Comment

Dont sweat it. Im a pretty skinny guy and the only match I ever ran out of belt space on was Iron Man, so there's really no need for the 4x4 carriers unless youre super super skinny or miss a lot
I have room for 7 4s, one 6, two pistol mags, one rifle mag and my pistol holster on my belt, so depending on your mag sizes and assuming staged loaded weapons, youd end up with around 40 shotgun shells, 50 pistol rounds and 60 rifle rounds and that should get you through most stages

Also it would be a good idea to get hands on the 4x4 carriers to try them out first. Depending on your hand size/finger length you might have an issue getting the shells out of the back cleanly.Comment

I think if you are just beginning you owe it to yourself to look at the Load 2 and Load 4 technique instead of the traditional load method(s).
I know at least 4 seasoned shooters who were traditional weakhand loaders switch to the Load 2 and Load 4 technique. And I've noticed at least one of them was actually placing a tad higher since switching.
The Load 2/4 is reportedly easier to learn too. Less practice needed to be a bad ***.Comment

Good advice, RS. I never quite got the weak hand load four to work for me. I had to practice every day to get sub-6 second 8 rd reloads. One hour of practice will get you there with load-two.I think if you are just beginning you owe it to yourself to look at the Load 2 and Load 4 technique instead of the traditional load method(s).
