    Quiet Muzzle Break for Featureless

I currently run a PWS TTO and would like to run something that will go more unoticed by people on the line. Obviously needs to fit the "Featureless" criteria which I can look up here. Unfortunately that webpage doesn't have anything about noise level. I imagine 3-Gun folks would have some qualitative recommendations so I posted here.

    Thanks,

Unfortunately, I think most multigunners care about effectiveness, not offending people's ears. We might be able to tell you the best at reducing recoil but not necessarily the least offensive.

Find one without side ports. Recoil is not that bad anyway just use a thread protector.

I was on a similar search and stumbled across the RRA Tactical Muzzle Break (linky)

I wasn't all that concerned about recoil reduction (although some is nice) but wanted to minimize annoyance while still being good for being featureless. Plus I didn't really want to break the bank. I ended up getting one of these and put it on a 18" Noveske SPR-ish upper and it worked great. Not all that annoying (certainly much less so than the Surefire that was next to me in a Magpul SPR class I took with it) and only ~$30-35. I ended up getting another one for a 5.45 upper I have and have been happy.

I also got a Rainier Arms Mini-XTC and put that on a Colt 6920 I have. It got great reviews and was also not that expensive, but it is obnoxious. Maybe not PWS obnoxious, but still loud to anyone not directly behind the weapon.

I've tried a few and the MSTN QC brake works well without too much side blast. Definitely stay away from the SJC Titan if you want to keep your friends!

All brakes direct muzzle blast back in some manner, up, down, left, right. None are quiet, some are less annoying than others but all are hugely annoying to folks nearby compared to plain barrel muzzle or muzzle with birdcage.

As mentioned above, the better the brake works, the worse the local muzzle blast is. Law of physics thing

tripple taps are fairly quiet but stupidly expensive.

              Thanks for the reply folks,

I'll take a look at the suggestions, the primary intrest for me is to make one of my rifles tolerable to folks around me. I have a few setups and I want to make one of them primarily for a range with a firing line or classes.

Interested in your eventual solution for a friendly muzzle brake. I inflict punishment to my fellow shooters as well. On one I have a FEFRANS and on the other SureFire. The former has concussive blasts and the latter loud! I have heard good things about the Battlecomp 1.5.

I like those battlecomps but the question is- are they CA kosher?

GM77 perhaps an A2 style brake?

It is not nearly as noisy in front of the muzzle.

A thread protector will be a lot quieter than any muzzle brake.

I believe the DPMS Levang Linear is a very quiet brake. I doubt it does anything as far as recoil reduction, but it throws most of the blast forward and it appears quieter to the shooter.

Comps are for keeping the rifle flat during shooting, most are louder than heck.

I run one permanently on a 14.5" BCM.
