    Thanks.
    How do I handle this?:
I gave 4 of my friends Patriot memberships and we all took 4DDHG last year. Now, these guys want to take the 2 day skill builder but, Patriot doesn't cover that.

Besides having taken the class, I doubt they have any other assets in their account. How do I fix this? I'm looking for Diamond or better memberships for them.

It's good they enjoyed their class and want to return. I discovered this dilemma before we gave a couple of our friends the Patriot memberships. That membership seems to be a curse in a way. You can't just go buy another membership deal and forget their current ones. My understanding is you have to upgrade their accounts through one of the email offers from Mr. Piazza.

We read somewhere suggesting to open a different account and purchase an upgraded membership with the new account. I'm not sure how you do that, we were lucky enough to learn all this before gifting them a Patriot membership.

It didn't work for my daughter. I, too, made the same mistake and gave her a Liberty Tree Membership. Then we tried to give her a Diamond by opening a new account. It seemed to work, but in a few days they contacted her and cancelled the new account. They referenced her first account by name and birth date.

But now, if she is willing to shoot at a class at FS, I'd happily pay the good doctor $500 for a membership upgrade!

This is why I tell folks to just spend a little more and get the highest membership they can. You may be able to get a Patriot or Liberty for free or close to free, but then you run into this problem when you want to take the higher-level courses.

I feel that the Commander is the lowest membership you should consider for the best bang for the buck.

I agree. You never know if your friends are one and done or not. Maybe a certificate is best to start? That shouldn't cause any membership issues would it?

This method worked well for me when I took a friend in the fall. He enjoyed it and then I was able to give him a commander membership.

Totally agree. The certificate route is always the best way to go with friends or business associates. I give them a cert and tell them no matter what you are offered, don't buy anything until you talk with me. Then I can give them a Diamond or above. It's funny how newbies fall into the spam offers.

Can someone answer questions for me regarding the firearm requirements for Handgun Combat Master Prep? I understand that you should have a stock firearm with iron sights. I see that the list is mostly Glocks, but I mainly shoot a Sig P320.

I have a stock P320 Compact, Full Size, and X-Five that I could run. I am assuming the Full Size is okay but the X-Five would not be, since it is more of a competition gun from the factory?

Any concealment required? Does the holster need to be up high on the belt or would a mid-drop hanger be okay to run?

                  Thanks!

You might want to try asking at the Front Sight First Family Forum. They have an HCM section.

There is NO concealment on the HCM test.

Full size pistols are the most common (I took many tests with a G22, then switched to a G17).

40 and 45 cal are considered "major caliber" - you get minus 3 for a peripheral hit

9mm is "minor caliber" - minus 4 for a peripheral hit.

Zero down for making the shot - any caliber

Pistol must be "stock". Mid-drop holster I believe is OK, but HCM Range Master has final word. Bring a more standard holster that fits your weapon just in case...

If it is your first time taking HCMP, then just show up with enthusiasm and an open mind to experience the test. Don't be too concerned regarding the "rules and equipment". Those of us who have passed took the class and test many times...

In the unlikely event that your setup is "not legal", you can still take the test, it just would not count if you passed. Since you/nobody passes right away, just TAKING the test, and seeing what it is all about is most important....

I was out there this past weekend and took the test using a Red Dot just for fun....

                        LV_G22 Summed it up perfectly.

Of the 3 guns you listed, the full size 320 will be perfect.

You will be given a copy of the rules.

                        There is no concealment required.

Obviously no skeleton style holsters. It shall 'align with the side seam of the pants' or further to the rear. Both the holster, and magazine pouches, must retain everything such that it can withstand 1G (i.e. it doesn't fall out when inverted)

There are no specific instructions with regard to height. However, I will offer my personal opinion here... Lower does not equal faster. Within reason, higher is significantly faster. Presenting the gun to the target requires maximum efficiency. The lower the holster sits the more likely one is to 'bowl' the presentation instead of pushing it out to the target nearly horizontally from count 3. Bowling the front sight to the target requires significant settle time before the trigger break. The more horizontal the transition is from count 3 to 5, the earlier the sight have settled and the earlier the trigger break.

The lower the holster sits, the longer it takes to move from count 1 to 3. Yes, one can get to the count 1 position more quickly, but that 'advantage' can be easily lost.

I've never personally shot one, but I suspect that the trigger would be too light to even pass weapon inspection. FS in general requires (I think) 4.5 lb minimum. I think the Master's test rules specify 4 lb minimum.

...but as has already been pointed out, bring a gun and enjoy the class. Even if you find that setting a goal of passing the test is unrealistic (or more likely that it will require a time/training investment that you are not willing to 'spend) You will become a better shooter for the training. Just because a gun doesn't qualify for scoring, they will still let you shoot it. I've shot the test multiple dozens of times with an M&P Pro Core with an RM07 on it.

Anyone that is looking for help refining their speed/accuracy combo...the first 2 days of 4day HCMP are highly beneficial.

BTW - the FS requirement for minimum trigger pull is 4lbs.
