best electronic muffs

I'd like to get some electronic muffs to use when shooting steel challenge. I'm leaning toward the Pro Ears Gold with nr33. These are the large ear cup model. I am planning on trying some 3G competition in the future, and want whatever muffs I get to also work with a shotgun and rifle (would use them hunting as well) What are you folks using? using plugs with the muffs is doable too, I just need to be able to hear the steel hits. ANY advice and input is welcome!! Thanks

If you're waiting to hear the steel before you move on, you're going too slow. I've been using the ProEars for a few years now and I like them. I double plug..those open guns are LOUD! The muffs work okay for 3 gun, but I double plug there also because they can get dislodged when using shotgun/rifle. I don't know how much of an improvement the new ProEars Digital is, but the ProEars Gold needed some improvements, like the way the batteries are retained...or rather aren't retained. They also could use an auto shut off. My next pair will probably be Sordin, even though the NRR is a little lower, they really don't seem to be that much less.

yep best for the money why spend 250 buck on a pair when you can get a great pair for 70 bucks. 250 a whole lot of practice ammo

Price wise it looks like around 300 bucks is tops...I want to keep my hearing, so I don't mind paying the dough once, just want to get as much info as I can about what works so I don't have to buy a second time. Being able to shoot a rifle or shotgun without dislodging them is a major consideration. The Pro Ears gold line now takes the cr123 batteries, so that part is better. Of the shooters currently using the Pro Ears gold line, are you using the large cup with the nr33, or are you using the models with the chopped sides to facilitate rifle shooting? Again, thanks in advance for any and all input on this.

Mine are the full cups with the 33NRR. The chopped sides don't make any difference for me, it hits the stock at the bottom of the ear padding. That's why I double up when shooting rifle/shotgun, that and when shooting open, those compensated guns are LOUD!. For trap, I just use the molded plugs. I've had mine for about 4 years and I was starting to get a little static. I believe it's the battery terminals corroding, so I cleaned them off and put on some conductive gel.

In that case, like Joe above I would urge a close look at the Sordins. They ain't cheap but they have some of the best audio processing I've experienced, I don't find their low profile to interfere with my long guns, and the battery life you get out of them is fantastic.

Should add their NRR rating is not the highest so you can double up with them and take advantage of the great audio processing.

I have a set of pro ears the clays series, Howard leight, peltor powered and finally just bought the sordins with the gel cups.

WOW, WOW and WOW.

The sordins are easily worth the money if you wear hearing protection all the time.
Its a crazy excellent product, and I would suggest the clarity is easily very close to the pro ears. I do think the pro ears are excellent, but I do not care for the switches.

I paid $315 for mine and dealt with an excellent on line supplier.

Buy the behind the neck model, more secure on your head, and can be worn with a helmet.
